I really dislike marching poses.

But how are they meant to get from one side of the table to the other when not fighting?

I really dislike marching poses.

I think one French officer said it was a "legs war", meaning they spent more time marching and patroling, i.e. running from one place to another, than actually fighting those slippery "Mexicanos".

All good things come to those who wait.

If these sell well then perhaps other poses will come and the range sounds like its going to just grand!

It will be nice to see some piccies, soon I hope!!

That's exactly why I dislike them. A wargame represents the conflict and the battle being fought, not the weeks of marching and deploying before hand. A figure on a battlefield should be doing something relevant to that situation, be it firing, skirmishing, advancing, reloading etc etc.

That said, Officers can be in almost any pose as long as they look good. They often aren't involved in the actual 'conflict' so I don't mind 'relaxed' poses on them, such as the Major.

Before anyone mentions Napoleonics, I'm aware they marched into gunfire but lets face it, they were idiots and I don't play them.  ;)

I really hope they do sell well, but unfortunately it won't be me buying them anymore  :( I therefore engourage everyone else to buy them so that I can get other poses :D
The major will just have to look pretty on a shelf for the time being.

Looking forward to seeing these, I can then order the Lieutenant as well to go with my Major.

ok, I have been following this range and I don't know if I am being dumb or something, but I can't figure out where to get the models in the shop?

I go to the Maximillian Adventure 1861-1867 part but only see one model available?

Fear not, that is simply because they're aren't there. Ged hasn't uploaded the new releases yet. He usually posts previews of upcoming figures in the blog section of the Gringo 40's website, but the Egyptians are nowhere to be seen there either. We'll have to wait for a few days until they are officially released to see them fully unveiled, methinks.

Incidentally I don't mind marching poses - provided not all troops in the range are sculpted that way of course. And the Egyptian battalion was a relatively minor unit which certainly did not bear the brunt of the fighting during the Maximilian expedition anyway, which for me at least makes it all right if they are not depicted in full action mode.

Although I do prefere more active poses for this conflict (advancing/charging, skirmishing/firing) I'll buy the marching Egyptians/Sudanese. I'm sure they'll look good escorting a convoy.
