New Colonial range from Studio Miniatures

We have added a second range to our EMPIRE line of miniatures.

Out this month are the first releases for our 28mm Northwest Frontier range. These minis represent British forces circa 1890's and are the first in a range that will include Highlander's, Gurkha's, Indian's, Cavalry, Artillery and of course Afghans to fight against.

These minis will also be suitable for other conflicts including The Boer War, Late Sudan and our other colonial range The Boxer Rebellion.

Available in white metal only. Also in our store the great plastic bases from Renedra ideal for basing these new minis for the tabletop.

Lovely miniatures, fantastic painting. Though I wouldn't take the rectangle bases for this sort of gaming.

They're really crisp, clean sculpts and paint up really well because of it (although I was khakl-blind by the end of the week  ).

I'd be interested in hearing how they match up to Foundry Perry OG etc too for size

May i ask about the khaki too? It looks more grey to me. I should say however that i'm badly colour-blind! Lovely job in any event

To be honest I'm not sure, although I would guess they may well be a bit bigger considering how old the Foundry range is/was, but then again I might have painted master castings (basically, I have no idea... I've really been no help what so ever have I? ).

I painted the uniforms with a base coat of VGC Khaki and highlighted it with GW Foundation Dheneb Stone. Might added a little white for a few sharp highlights here and there too. I think the colour got a little washed out it the photo's though.

Guess who needs to buy more Dheneb Stone now.

Yes, they do look 'Murch-ish'. They have that well-padded, smooth quality to them. And just a little bit wooden... 

But something about them definitely appeals...

I think the paintjob sells them really well, although I must admit, I'm not convinced by the stone-coloured take on the khaki. Very neat brushwork though
