buy/import hotwire cutters in melbourne
« on: 04 March 2012, 01:30:44 PM »
For some reason people have been using handheld hot wire cutters as weapons and are now banned in Victoria, places like woodland scenic sell handheld hot wire cutters but i really don't feel like handing over 50 bucks with the possibility of it being snatched by customs so does anyone know some stores that sell em in Australia and if that fails does anyone have ideas on how to sneaks something past customs. im desperate

1. Get a friend overseas or in another state to send you one. In pieces, if that's what it takes.

2. Make your own.

I can't even fathom how anyone would go about using one as a weapon...

They are not difficult to make, and there are a large number of web tutorials on them.  Essentially you're just running power across a metal wire.

Okay, now someone needs to run a modern-era game where the goal is to smuggle a crate of hot-wire cutters into Melbourne.

I joined my gun with pirate swords, and sailed the seas of cyberspace.

This does beggar belief, hobby stores over here already have to check ages or IDs on aerosols, glues and blades, but will this be next?  :o

You can imagine the criminal saying to the victim "Sorry mate, can you hold still for a few minutes whilst I try and burn your hand off"  lol

You'd be better of making your own as I've found the shop bought ones too small. You can even make ones with the span of a meter hooked up to a car battery  :D

cheers

im only 15 and i have little to no DIY skills so building one is out of my league so i might just buy one on my trip to cairns (a place very far away from the nanny state of melbourne victoria)

i just ask a random dude in the store to buy it for me.

Yopu can pick them up pretty cheap on ebay, the issue with overseas would be the battery as it is normally a prohibited item which is why they may ban it as a postal item
