King Tiger - in Progress

Here is a shot of my latest output. It is a reworked King Tiger by Corgi Diecast in 1/60 scale (so compatable with unheroic 25/28mm)that I am doing as from '44 Ardennes. I am going to put some of Offensive's lovely German paras riding on the rear like in the iconic images.

Nice! I'm not *that* skilled, so I cheat whenever possible! My King Tigers (and JS-2s) are prepainted Hobby Master 1/48th kits:

I really think 1/48 is too big for 28mm, just look at 1/48 figures like North Star produce - they are (very nice)giants! But needs must! You could always buy your models prepainted to order from a friendly supplier.......like me ( I am bit pricier than the mass produced, but you get exactly what you want and in metal not plastic)

To each his own, but I like the look of 1/48th scale for all my heavy tanks, use 1/50 for most of my medium-to-heavy tanks, and 1/56th for light tanks and early war stuff.

The KT is coming along nicely - decals on now and the Fallschirmjager are converted and undercoated. I am expecting a few more FJ's from Offensive but have mocked up (on another diecast King Tiger) and prepped the first three tank riders as shown below.

Turret on - with decals. Rust wash with pastels, pin wash done. Looks glossy because I spray it with Floor Polish to get a shiny surface for the decals to settle on.  A bit of decal set, a top coat of floor polish and they look painted on. The glossy finish helps the pin wash flow better, and you can wipe off excess once dry.

Metallic luster is pencil graphite applied with a finger or pencil.

Just the filter coat, matte varnish and some mud in the tracks to go. The vinyl tracks are Ok, but I would like to do ones like my T34 tracks.

Crewman to finish as well as the paratroopers for the back.

WOW!  Ab-fab, my friend! I'm a newbie to airbrushing and want to try my hand, what's the best way to get the effect you have? Is it by using masking, is it strictly brush control?? Thanks.

It depends on your airbrush. What have you got?

For sharply demarked patterns then tamiya masking tape is best. I used blue tack on this one as it is semi - soft. For blury ones then free hand is best.
