Metal Ducting tape.
« on: March 19, 2012, 02:22:14 AM »
I just pulled some metal ducting tape out to play with.  I stuck it on some graph paper and cut out panels.  Then I took a pounce wheel out and embossed rivets on the back of the sheets.  I also tried embossing creases in the sheets.  It worked pretty well.  I think that it would all some quick detail for terrain in almost any setting.  More images are on my blog.

Hope you like.

I work on weekends for a flight school with their own maintenance facility; the maintenance engineers call this stuff "thousand-mile-an-hour tape"... I think I'll have to beg a short length of it off them to experiment with!

I've never come across metal ducting tape before but was wondering if you could get a similar material by putting double sided tape onto metal food containers, like the ones you get with takeaway meals?

Interesting idea!

What about instead of sticking the metal tape onto paper, you put something nonstick like wax paper to the sticky side so that you could emboss as above but still be able to use the tapes adhesion to stick it onto whatever.

I see applications of ships hulls, metal paneling, Zeppelins.

I have been playing with trying to make sheet metal items like tool trays out of this stuff.  It works pretty well. I will get some images up later.
