Ancient Wall Fort - Now finished! 12th April, 2012
« on: March 25, 2012, 06:59:48 AM »
Hi all, I am putting this together for the Conquest tourname in Melbourne over the long weekend. Games there are primarily Warhammer and Warmachine etc. But I have put this together with the intention of using for a plethora of wargaming adventures in times to come!

I have loosely based it on a wall for from Hadrian's wall. Here's a reference pic: http://www.timetravel-britain.com/articles/1photos/stones/wall5.jpg

I've also taken some inspiration from the WAB rulebook. Not particularly accurate, but I think it could suit Greek/Roman settings, even the early Dark Ages. Or an archaeological dig... the damaged parts are removable and I fully intend on adding some extra wall sections. The idea is that it is a rendered wall that has taken a fair bit of abuse.

And here is the wall and said fort:

Some more pics will be up on the blog in a couple of days. What do you think so far?

Thanks guys! The good thing is you won't have to wait too long to see it finished! I've only got a couple of weeks! :o

I've just ordered some GB Arthurian (Late Roman) troops to celebrate.

Does look promising  8)

The only thing I would suggest would be the buttresses at the front, they should be sloping backwards to the wall that they are bracing otherwise their purpose isn't really warranted.

cheers

Looking good. I agree with James about the buttresses, maybe add a sloping bit on the tops?

They're flying buttresses... you can see them in the far distance above the skyline ;) Good point though, guys. I will be able to add a slight slop at the top without much of a fuss.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Hi mate, I am actually in Sydney but coming down for the show. I get my blue foam locally, but I'm not sure if that's of any help to you!

I think you will find most sellers/suppliers of foam have the blue foam these days. I picked up a bundle of off cuts from the one near my club last time I dropped in. No charge either which was great.
Cheers,

Cheers guys.  The only foam supplier I can think of near me is Clark Rubber and last time I checked they didn't carry any rigid foam other than standard white polystyrene.

I should have listed Clark Rubber as an exception, they only have the normal foam although here locally (Perth, WA), they do have pluck foam, some of which now houses my Saxons for use in soon to be released skirmish rules.

Brink of Battle has just actually been released, waiting on my copy now, Dux Britanarium/TFL (title may change) expected June this year and Dux Bellorum (Osprey/Dan Mersey). The latter I believe to be large skirmish but the TFL rules will have a build up to a campaign AFAIK.
