I love the idol, great work there!

Thanks, styx!
It is a really nice sculpt, almost cute (if a Cthulhu beastie can be cute.... ::)), and really easy to paint up.

Here is the other new addition, which was held back so that Legionnaire Bert could have a nice surprise.
 ;)

The Mummy

I wanted a Mummy figure that would fit 'inside' the Cult Leader figure from Uncle Mike's range.
As the UM Leader is quite large (and my paintjob had made it look more than a little like a puppet  ::)), I thought it would be ideal if the outward appearance was just a disguise, enabling the creature inside to be hidden from onlookers until it chose to reveal its true nature!
When I saw this miniature it just had to purloined for this idea.
Take a look at the face and headgear: It just had to be!

He made his first appearance in one of the games that we played last night, only revealing his true nature when he was ready, and certainly led Bert a merry old dance.
It certainly was fun, at least for me!
 :D

(More of the games later, as I need some time to sort out the pictures).

Until then, what do think of this fella?
Uncanny resemblance or what???

Nicely done fella. Looks great.
I'm gutted to be missing out on tonight's game, had to console myself with some nightshift purchasing for my fledgling lurkers. 7 zombies a cult leader and a cult high priest ooh and a conglomerate.... I'm rather pleased with myself actually.

How many BP will you have to spend on gribblies for the big game?

Give those M.O.O.S.E boys a good spanking Mason......er....I mean good luck chaps.

Yes, mate, you missed a good un! I'll let Mason elaborate with the AARs but suffice to say we managed a couple of games and most eventful the evening's proceedings were too! I had a real blast again, thanks to Mr mason and his mummy (Charming person, if a little ancient, stiff and psychotic...).

Looking forward to a game of either Mordheim or Strange Aeons with you again soonmate. Gonna send you a PM shortly.

Bert

VERY COOL idea & the mini matches the idea perfectly...VERY NICE brushwork. I bet the expression on Bert's face as the Mummy emerged from his disguise was priceless.
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

The Bones line does show some promise.
I have the Werewolf and he is very nice and damn cheap.
I feel one of those lovely Cthulhu models are a must for all!
 ;D

TheThames Valley Division of M.O.O.S.(E)., had been alerted to a recent break-in at the storage facility of the The Ashmolean Museum of Art & Archaeology, Oxford.
Amongst a variety of other items stolen was a Sarcophagus containing the mummified remains of Tuten-Khamondaan.

The head of the Thames Valley Division, Aubrey Werther-Minte, quickly realised that this was highly likely to involve the Cult of the Purple-headed Worm, enemies of the State and a constant thorn in his side.
Heading to the location of the last known sighting of the truck containing the stolen artifacts, he consulted a map of the area, looking for likely hiding places.
Having driven to a couple of possible places and having no luck, he consulted a map of the ley-lines in the area.
Finding that one of the local farms was on a a junction of two of the lines, he followed his hunch and headed towards Cockshoot Farm.

He was right!

From his vantage point of a wooded hill, he could see the truck used in the robbery parked on the road running past the farmyard, parked next to a, distinctly out of place, city car.
Seeing the Purple robes of his hated enemy in the farmyard, he ordered his team forward...

Here is the set-up that was used for the game.

In the game (a variation of Retrieve the Artifacts) it was representing a lonely farmstead where the evil followers of the Cult had slaughtered the inhabitants and used the blood to perform the Ritual to raise the Mummy.

The white dot indicates the starting position of the Idol, that the Cult had to remove from the board by dragging it onto the back of the truck on the right hand edge of the board.
The blue dots show the location of the other crates that may contain other artifacts stolen from the Museum.

The Cultists were gathered around the Idol, unaware of the proximity of the men and woman of the Ministry.

Had they completed the unspeakable acts that they had started?

With Aubrey realising that speed was of the essence, the forces of His Majesty used their van to get as close as possible, before piling out and advancing on the farmyard.

As the Cultists heard the sound of the van engine, they began to spread out in response.

As the Ministry team entered the farmyard they came under heavy fire from a Tommy gun, with one of their number collapsing to the ground. Henry was laying still in a spreading pool of blood and ominously silent, his trusty rifle laying beside him.

The rest of the team took revenge for poor Henry's misfortune and blasted huge chunks from the Cultist.

As the Cultist fell, the rest of the team sought cover amongst the boxes and barrels strewn around the farmyard, fully aware of their fate should they continue their advance in the open!

As the first Cultist fell, the rest of them advanced, guns blazing.

.

It was a good thing that Aubrey's team were in plenty of cover!

Whilst the majority of the cult were moving up to engage the Agents, a pair of brawny fellas were making good their escape with the precious Idol, dragging it unceremoniously to the waiting truck.

As the rest of the team were engaging the gibbering Cultists in a furious firefight, poor Isaac Ite was struggling to come to terms with his phobias, and was struggling to join the fight.
His Dynamite would have been really handy now.
If only he could find his damned lighter!

As Isaac finally found the missing lighter, the rest of the team had sucessfully finished off the chanting robed ones, gunning down the last Cultist in a fusilade of lead.

Unfortunately for the Ministry Agents, the Cultists had held them up long enough to allow their compatriots to finally drag the Idol onto the truck and were making good their escape.

As the Ministry team heard the sound of screeching tyres, signalling the departure of the truck and its precious cargo, they surveyed the blood-drenched yard surrounding them.
Poor Henry had not made a sound since he had fallen to the ground.

As the made their way towards their fallen comrade, the silence that had descended on the farm was broken by a blood curdling scream!
The Mummy, who had been disguised in the robes of a Cult Leader, had discarded the the purple robes and screeched its fury!

The Agents may have destroyed all the Cultists opposing them, but now they must contend with the fury of the Undead....

To be continued......

Fun read. Great batrep so far.  :-*

I really like that board setup. It has lots of nooks and crannies for the minis to interact with and presents a lot of tactical options.

Meeeep!!!

F#*cking great AAR.  That looks like an exciting game!

Aubrey old chap.
I have some intel on where I might find those devious cultish chaps, perhaps we can co ordinate something, I'll give you my mans number. I've a score to settle and could use some assistance.

Thanks, aggro!
We do try to make the boards as interesting as possible.
A few bits of 'scatter' scenery goes a long way on a 2x3 board.
It does help the gameplay as well, not enough cover and guns can dominate the game too much.
Many an Agent has had good reason to give thanks to a wall, barrel or crate for saving his skin!

It certainly was.
(As the second part of the report will confirm).

An effort to create an alliance, eh?
I like it!

The Mummy Awakens AAR (Part 2)

With the Icon safely on its way and the rest of the Cult down and out of action, the Mummy, Tuten-Khamondaan, decided that it was time to take revenge on those interfering busybodies from the Ministry.
Discarding the robes of the Priest that it was disguised as, it drew its ancient weapon and bellowed its fury to the skies!

.

The Ministry Agents, busy searching the remaining crates for anything useful, had placed themselves perilously close to where the ancient evil being had been lurking.
With a terrifying scream, the Mummy came running at the Agency team.

The first to feel the grip of terror was Issac Ite, already a little fragile in the mind, who had been about to search a crate marked with the seal of the Ashmolean Museum.
As the undead creature revealed itself in all its blood-chilling glory, Issac lost control of his faculties and entered a Frenzy, charging headlong at the dead beast!

Meanwhile, Agent Gloria Stitts fell to her knees, eyes wide in panic.

Issac put up a brave fight, holding up the horror from the crypt for several valuable seconds allowing Gloria to regain her composure and Betty Swollocks, the other surviving member of the team, to move up with her trusty shotgun, loading both barrels as she advanced.

It was not to be, though, as Isaac took a sharp blow to the head, scalp bleeding furiously, as he went down to the power of the Mummy!

Seeing Isaac crumble to the ground, blood flowing freely from his skull, Aubrey drew his own sword and waited for the inevitable, knowing the filthy creature would be coming for him next!
And so it was.

Service-issue Sword clashing against ancient tulwar, the head of the Thames Valley Division faced off against this most unexpected foe, knowing that he had never faced a more deadly opponent.
Despite all his training and experience, he knew he was outmatched.
This creature had been a master of this type of combat thousands of years before he was even born!

Aubrey fought savagely and gave his all but it was not enough.
He was next to fall to this ancient weapon.
A terrible blow was delivered to his arm, all but severing the limb.
With blood pumping from the wound, his body gave up with the shock as he fell unconscious to the floor.

The team was in serious danger of being wiped out and, before the Mummy could cut Aubrey's head from his shoulders, the ladies of the team opened fire.
Unfortunately for them, Betty's normally trusty shotgun chose this crucial moment to jam and the fusilade of shots from Gloria's Tommy gun failed to wound the creature!
In fact, all it seemed to do was anger it even more!

As the creature shrugged off the effects of the stream of lead that had been poured into it, it advanced on Gloria, dragging her over the intervening fence and smashing her frail body to the ground.

As the creature leant forwards to tear Gloria's face off with its rotten jaws, Betty, having cleared the jam in her shotgun, opened fire.
It was a risky shot, she could just as easily kill Gloria in the blast, but she had no choice: Gloria would surely die anyway.

Sighting down the barrel, aiming at the groteque head of the creature she squeezed the trigger.

The Mummy's head exploded in a shower of dust, the dessicated body collapsing like a puppet with its strings cut.

Betty stood there for several seconds unable to move.
She surveyed the blood splattered scene of carnage surrounding her.

The Ministry team had won the day, but at what cost....?

After double-checking with Legionnaire Bert, it turned out to be quite a punishing day for the Thames Valley team.

His character, Aubrey Werther-Minte received an Arm Wound following his encounter with the Mummy.

Agent Isaac Ite developed Ballistophobia.
For a fella with Two .45's and Two-Fisted (Shooting), this was quite a blow! It does add to his already slightly edgy character, though...

Poor old Agent Henry Enfield was to come off the worst, though. He was Dead!

Torn to pieces by an enraged Mummy, another member of the Thames Valley Division would have to be buried with full honours, the true manner of his death would be, yet another, secret of the state.

The Team's Base Points had dropped below 15, so a re-equip was in order.
Bert had the Map Pieces available, so a Medic was top of the list!

Great AAR, lovely scenery as always.
On a separate matter, I may be having a hard of thinking moment, but the PM I sent you with regards to location & SELWG attendance is steadfastly refusing to appear in my PM outbox, so I'm not sure if you've recieved it, so let me know if you haven't.
