SS2 vs. SS3?  It really is a matter of taste. Both games play pretty well and emulate genre.  We just revisited some stuff with 3rd to clean up aspects of play that bugged me.

One major attack, per character, per turn, vs. a single character attacking 2 - 3 times is the biggest difference.

As to the complexity--it's something you'll internalize over time.  Also, if you initially  avoid power pool and variable-type powers you won't run into a lot of complexity in the builds.  One major thing for SS3 is the way Super must be bought to support higher dice totals. If want a 6D or higher pool, that's superhuman and so you need to buy a level of Super (a re-roll for the pool, essentially) for that.

Anyway, glad folks are talking about the game--any edition of the game!   :)

Thanks!

I can highly recommend the Pulp City minis and rules.
Such a fun and enjoyable game.

Looking forward to trying out SS3. Its looking like a great system.
Got LOTS of minis that I want to make rules for and several more on my 'to buy' list.
My main gaming buddy already has plans for quite afew of his minis.

Obsidian,
On getting the group to play, I suggest making some ready made supers for them to try. My group wasn't initially interested either, but leaned to love it. One way to help, I did short explanations of the powers on the back of the record sheet to help some of our more forgetful (old) players.

Yep I'm working on something almost exactly like that.  I mentioned the game to a few of my regulars and asked what superhero team / characters they'd like to try it out with.  So I have to create Fantastic Four, X-Men, Avengers and JLA stat sheets.  I've already made up some Alpha Flight characters for myself.

We're hoping to give it a go next week with a few of those folks.  Should be fun.

Will do.  It's not going to happen this Thursday, as we're playing sealed VS (I stockpiled a bunch of sealed product just before the game got 'put on hiatus').  If I don't have enough players for that I'll be talking with Uncle Mike about his beta rules for the new Unspeakable Cults game extension for Strange Aeons.  Depending on what everyone is doing for the long weekend (Canada day on July 1st) and the weather, I might be able talk some folks into trying it then.  If not it'll probably be next Tuesday or Thursday.

It's one of the better and more versatile systems out there.  It can be adapted to all kinds of settings, and game types.  I see it as a Gurps or Champions of wargames.
