Salute project (1 down 27 to go) Completed 24/5/12
« on: 25 April 2012, 01:45:33 PM »
Bought a squadron pack of 1/4800 Napoleonic ships from Tumbling Dice (28 ships in all) at Salute. Painted the first one today to work out how to go with these and pretty happy with the result and think these will look great on the table with the idea of building up to eventually fighting Trafalgar. Just need to varnish the mini to protect for gaming (going to gloss the lot then dullcote then gloss the sea again to make it "watery"). Pictured with a penny to give an idea of the size of these things.

A little progress but that's it for now as it's far too gloomy to do any more painting.

British Squadron is now done. Got the French/Spanish squadron to clean up and prep now. May try a different technique with them, not going for historical accuracy on any of these (too bloomin' small) just a sense of what they would like.

Spanish contingent done. Tried to stick with vague accuracy with these. Santa Ana was known to have a black hull which i've done, not sure it works at this scale though so may go back and use some artistic licence and add some colour. Santisima Trinidad was a huge 4 deck ship (the only one of her time) but the biggest models in this range are only 3 deckers so had to paint on an extra deck, again a bit of artistic licence used. On the table it does the job a treat though.

French are done, again artistic licence applied here, think they look the part though. I'll try and get a group shot of all 25 ships (i got the ammount wrong in the thread title  ::)) Just got them all to varnish now then get some gameplay in  :)
