It's been a week since I returned from Adepticon'12 where I ran two GASLIGHT
"demonstration" games (see under Kroot Wars). These are games where Adepticon
members walk up and play games that they find interesting. I was lucky to have 6
players for both games and everyone had a good time.
Most of the players at Adepticon are GW, Privateer Press and Battlefront
players, and on first seeing a GASLIGHT VSF game, they are sometimes confused:
Observer: Wow! That is wild! What game is this?
Me: GASLIGHT
Observer: Huh?? Er…..um……Cool! Who makes GASLIGHT figures?
Me: No one, the Kroot are GW Kroot from the Tau army and the Brits are various
historical figures. The Tanks are various VSF models and the Walker is scratch
built by putting two film canisters on top of the legs of a Star Wars toy.
Observer: But how do you know if the Walker has a gun and how the Walker's gun
works?
Me: You make it up. The guidelines are right here in the book! (I show him how
to make up the specs for a dinosaur for a dinosaur-hunt game)
Observer: Wow! That IS cool!
OK, I was having some fun with their questions, but all in all they were
impressed with a game you basically make up yourself. Especially with the
spoon-feeding of figures and units from the above mentioned games. This was new
to most of them.
It was a great weekend, and I was hoarse after both games were done (about 3-4
hours each). I am now impressed with the GM skills of Buck and Chris, who I know
run much bigger games at the HMGS cons. Thanks again for the kind gift
contributions.
