space buggy
« on: May 26, 2012, 04:55:17 PM »
Found this in a toy shop ,it's made by Matchbox, cost £1.

I think it would make a good scifi scout buggy or perhaps the vehicles you find in an evil genius's lair. It would fit with 25 and 28mm figures.
they also make one in white
i hope someone finds this useful.
cheers

I have two of those waiting to be chopped up. I would suggest that for 25/28mm you would need to make it a one-seater but apart from that, they are a very nice find (if you can get hold of them).

Those cost $.88 at Walmart. That's around 56p according to Google.

I bought a while bunch of them.

Sadly the huge off center jerrycan on the hood is solid steel which makes removing it a kind of file-related hell. I did manage to file the little shovel off. The crate in the back (also off center) is also solid.

I was going to try and turn them into compact infantry fighting vehicles both open topped and turreted for15mm. I will need a grinding wheel or grinding belt to do it though. My dremel really isn't up to it even with the carbide mill head and slow speed. I may have to take the additive approach and partially grind the unwanted features down and then putty over them.

Pretty cool though. Just not for what I had planned. I was SURE that the features would be hollow and stamped or even aluminum but they are a cast in a brittle steel.

Couldn't you use milliput ,raise the height of the hood and hide the jerry can. might be easier than all that grinding.

You can find a lot of those on ebay by searching for Matchbox 6X6.
This is my boomstick!
