*insert sound of silvery starship zooming by*

Well then, I was lucky enough to be given three Hydra Miniatures figures from their Retro Raygun line (two rangers and a cute flying little robot) and immediately set about painting them. Those "can´t get a damn thing done" phases are coming in ever-shortening intervals. Damn. Well, got out of that one at least.

Well then, I´m more of an "Atomic Age" retro-sf fan myself, although I certainly like the Flash Gordon stuff as well; and, while I won´t be bothered with their content anymore, I absolutely love the graphic style of the "Perry Rhodan" universe (which is a novelet series running for more than 40 years here in Germany. You can have terribly serious and long-running discussions on the literary "value" and moral values of German SF in general and P.R. in particular, but I won´t go into detail), so I did something along that line with the figures; rather than painting them up in a "flashy space hero" style, I went for a "semimilitary astronaut" look by combining khaki/sand and white.

Only downside is that I AB-SO-LUTELY HAVE to get more of those figures.

Well then, here´s Captain Perry Comet, Star Ranger, rescuing the universe and wooing the ladies with his ethereal singing voice.

And a trooper with a raygun.

Sooo... I´m thinking of building one of those flying submersible tank things next.

Hi Chris;

Great Job! I really love your paint scheme on our Retro Raygun figures.  The choice of colors is unique--very different from the other brightly colored suits.
If you don't mind, I'd love to feature them on my website gallery.

On a side note, I've got two new Galacteers, a Galacteer monkey and a robot on my workbench.  Sculptor Scott Francek just dropped off a new female Galacteer trooper (she looks great!)

Thanks for sharing your awesome paintjobs!

I´d be honoured! If you want to, I´ll send you the pics this afternoon (CET).

Joy! I had been worried that you´d be diverting your resources to developing War Rocket first (which looks like a ton of fun as well, but I´m more of a "figure skirmish" guy).

Finally got to shooting some pics of the latest stuff!

First off, two defence laser turrets to guard a space port or an Arkonid secret base in the jungles of Venus. I will spray-paint them silver, then add some blackwash detailing and maybe a numeral or two.

And my latest piece de résistance, two alien creatures which I found in a rummaging bin at a recent convention - paid a Euro apiece for the two of them. Bonus points to the one who finds out the original "use" of the figure and the maker (the latter is not that difficult). Hint: I left off the supplied heads and added two eye slits above what is now the mouth.

They do look good next to the other figures, and after painting them, I was a little miffed that I didn´t look through the bins for some more, especially at that price - the stiff pose is not that terrible, since they´ll work for both the peaceful as well as the scheming kind of alien creature, although being red space apes, they DO seem a bit type-cast... lol

Very lovely indeed! And even though they seem typecast they do look the part.

But I really, really can't figure out where they're from  ???

Finally something new!

I immediately ordered the new Retro Raygun figures once they became available from Miniaturicum (top service again!) and finished painting them up, completing a "Mark II" atomic flying submarine tank and an alien ally as well.

Specialist Irina:

Space Troopers:

Two more Robots, one from Hydra miniatures, one an old Traveller miniature:

Ecco Lotos, ancient and friendly hulking alien scientist:

The figure was built up using putty, metal and plastic pieces with a GW fantasy plastic ogre as a starting point. It is based on a Demonworld plastic hexagonal base.

And finally the Mark 2 Space Tank.

Used a ton of plasticard and putty (the Revell one, crap stuff. Stay clear) to build up the basic hull shape. The only "ready-to-use" parts where the engine nozzles, which were taken from deodorant containers.

Atomic cheers!
