15mm APC from Poundland
« on: June 12, 2012, 04:02:12 PM »
Some time ago there was a thread re a Poundland vehicle usable for 15mm. I got some but have only just got round to painting. This is the finished article with a couple of Khurasan figures for scale. This is meant to be the intel unit, it has a radar and sensors added (from GZG). HQ nearly finished (just needs arials) and another which will be armed with gatling (again from GZG).

I'm in the states, specifically in Texas (because stores in the US can be very regional in scope), and we don't have a Poundland. (Or pounds sterling even!)

We do have Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Big Lots, and Walmart. And maybe a couple of others that I'm missing.

I've been making weekly rounds of them picking up lots of Matchbox cars like the Coyote, The ARV (I found some in a "Prehistoric Five Pack" with some other vehicles) a Buffalo MRAP, an HEMTT, and some Swat Trucks. So far I haven't found any of those APCs, but the search continues.

I did find  some VERY cheaply made plastic military trucks five to a package for a $1 that are closer to 20mm than 15mm and I'm going to harvest their wheels bury them in sand and glue, and melt them a little to use as terrain wrecks.

What a great find.  Pays to walk through the toy section no matter which store you are in.

I'll be in the UK next month. Where's  the nearest Poundland to Bovington, Portsmouth or Maidstone?

The APC reallylooks the part.  Not a goofy thing with guns all over, which is the problem with some of the dollar/pound store toys.

I have three of these, unmodded so far. I've repainted one but still have to finish the base.

I want to get some of these to go with the APCs

Hi Colin
Glad you spotted the thread as it was your original posting that got me on this path.
Have now finished the HQ vehicle. Radar from GZG, aerials from guitar string, Khurasan minis for scale.

I like that HQ, John. Nice and dirt looking. Looks like it's seen a lot of action. I need to convert one of mine. I don't want three with those missile tubes that they came with.

Been into our local Poundland (West Bromwich) and they have loads of these back in stock. May be worth another look. If anybody wants them I can get some and forward for £1 each plus postage at cost.
