Front Rank Miniatures...
« on: June 22, 2012, 05:53:18 AM »
I hate to "waste" a post on a silly question but I really hope that some of you could help me.
What other miniatures fit nicely with the Front Rank Medieval range?
Their bulk and style makes them hard to combine with other, but I am sure I am missing something...
Any help, advice, or pictures will be really appreciated!!
Thanks!!

I haven't seen them in the flesh, but i suspect the Renegade Wars of the Roses range would be a reasonable match in bulk and style to the Front Rank Wars of The Roses range...

How do Renegade and Front Rank fit in with the Perry plastics?

I suspect that they are much bigger but I have not seen a comparison photo.

Personally I would say they don't, I got rid of my box of perry plastics because they didn't mix well.

I'd agree with the previous comments - Front Rank are hard to match up.

I have a couple that I've snuck in with my Perrys for a bit of variety, but they are taller, chunkier and often have flatter posing which makes them look awkward in comparison.

You should ask LAF member Jorge808 who is mixing many ranges.

If I'm not mistaken, here there are 2 bases of The Assault Group in the first rank; a base of Front Rank in the back left, and a base of Perry in the back right:

Personally I would only mix FR with Grenadier and Renegade. Their range is nice enough on its own, though.

My main armies are Front Rank with garnishings of the old Grenadier Fantasy Warriors now available via Mirliton or various others IIRC and units of Black Tree. I have no real glaring issues mixing them. If you want I can do some comparison shots of bare lead.

Edit: The Grenadier plate mail guys are suitable, the archers/xbow/pike are noticeably smaller.

Thanks for all your replies. I would appreciate if you had some shots of the grenadier men at arms to compare! I know the pikes and arquebus don't fit as well...

If I'm not mistaken, the knights in the right are FR, the ones in the left are Grenadier (now Mirliton).

Actually I’m pretty sure both knights in the first picture are Grenadier/Mirliton… I got both here.

The figures in the second picture are indeed Grenadier (left) and Front Rank (right).

I am maybe not so sensitive but I mix Perry, Foundry, Front Rank, Gripping Beast and others without hesitation. If you want a close match with Front Rank, Gripping Beast would be best

Sorry, Calimero is right. Only the one in red comes from Front Rank.

Ok, an extra word of warning if you do decide to go for any Front rank figs.

This topic reminded me that I wanted to pick up one of their Master Gunner figures, he'll fit in well with my Perrys as he looks like a fat, prosperous guild leader so the large size is appropriate.

While I was there I decided to pick up the figure of the artilleryman kneeling with the ammo box that they do. Lovely little piece. Little? No, when it arrived, the kneeling figure is almost as tall as the standing Master. If he was stood up he's be a 40mm fig.

I can see the reasons behind doing a range that doesn't really fit with anyone else's, it encourages brand loyalty at least, but for crap's sake guys, at least make the range internally consistent!   ;D

Trading in Perrys because they don't match with Front Rank - shouldn't that be the other way round  :o
