Grim Fairy Tales project, new pictures 05/08
« on: June 24, 2012, 01:41:03 PM »
For a while now I have been hunting out pieces to start a long term project to make a set of miniatures and scenery for gaming Grimm's Fairy Tale fantasy games set in a place with some similarities to Eastern Europe. After about a year I think I have enough to start putting paint on some of them.

The idea behind the project is to play narrative campaign type Fantasy games set in the world of characters from the Fairy Tales of the brothers Grimm....with a twist.

More fantasy (Mordheim cross D&D/Chainmail) inspired but much of the scenery and some figures will serve dual purpose with the  "Witchfinder General" Histo/Folklore rules. Creepy woods, strangely abandoned villages, mills and mines, places long forgotten and ignored, I hope to include them all.

So for those of you who have seen or responded to my seemingly endless requests for living plants, mushroom men, witches, scarecrows and other odd stuff, this is what it has been about.

So, welcome to a Grim World inspired by the stories of the Brothers Grimm.

I have enrolled some LAF help with scenery for this so as well as my humble efforts you will get to see some professional pieces by Christian and Simon W (elysium64). But to start a cosy little place that a witch can call home.

Resin casting by Chris C (Zaheer), playful cats from Black Cat Bases, a couple of GW plastic bits and some sticks and stones from my garden.

Much more to come...... ;)

Lovely work, Rob!
 :-*

I particularly like the work that you have put in to make it look 'ancient.'

Looking forward to seeing where you go with this, especially as I can see myself stealing being inspired by this for some ideas for my British Strange Aeons project.

That hut by Zaheer looks like it would work well as a British Witch's abode.
Hmmmm....

I remember him posting them somewhere on here, but not sure where....

I think it is just a case of PM'ing him, if I remember correctly.

That looks great. Very glad that I let someone else post painted photos  lol.

There are a few of these remaining and I can always make more, although possibly not in such stinking resin. £7 ppd in the UK more for recorded post.

Rob if there are any pieces you'd like for your project perhaps we could have a chat about it.

If anyone is interested in this hut I can highly recommend Chris' work. The casting is heavy, clean and strong, detail is superb and there were virtually no air bubbles. A  quality that many of the "full time" scenery suppliers fail to manage.
The top is removable so that figures can be placed inside (short ones lol)

Now for some of the Witches in the coven; Reaper, RP, BTD, old GW and Westwind..with the babe in the woods being one of Manic's lovely Piranha Boys:

Thanks guys, I have changed the picture btw, the last one showed the thing as grey.....which it isn't.

and also made it look squatter, which I prefer... or is it a case of the original image dimensions making themselves felt?  ;)

What's that axe & stump from? Is that a resin cast or did you scratch build it or what? It looks great. Lovely trunk texture.

It is one of the many accessories that comes with the GW Bretonnian Men At Arms plastic set.

That is a cool coven of witches. Great idea and nice miniatures. And I like your choice of colors: not too bright but a little more than just grey and brown rags (which I would probably have chosen - having the three witches in Polanski's Macbeth in mind). The hut is gorgeous. Great thread.

The Cottage & Coven turned out VERY NICELY! The Ladies are an interesting mix of minis & their brushwork/basing is TERRIFIC. I love the background scenery in the Witch photo. WELL DONE!
