Potential Chinese faction: ideas?
« on: June 26, 2012, 12:08:44 AM »
Well I'm hooked. ;)

Wanted to do something different so thought about the opium dens of the East End of victorian London:

http://vichist.blogspot.co.uk/2009/03/opium-dens-and-opium-usage-in-victorian.html

http://www.qub.ac.uk/imperial/india/opium.htm

So looking to create a chinese (potentially) 'vampire' faction, (Jiang Shi: The hungry ghost clan).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiang_Shi

http://guidohenkel.com/2012/02/fu-man-chu%E2%80%99s-vampire-is-now-available/

Quote
When ordinary measures are no longer enough, criminal mastermind Fu Man Chu makes use of a supernatural henchman to get his way. Soon, Scotland Yard is confronted with a series of unexplainable deaths that unsettle Victorian London, and Inspector Lestrade turns to occult detective Jason Dark and Siu Lin for help.

But as they look into the case, little do the ghost hunters suspect that the evil crime lord has already made them the vampire’s next target! Filled with enough mystery, drama and suspenseful action to transport you to the sinister streets of gaslit London, your encounter with the extraordinary

Already have some hopping vampires, evil chinese master, the jade mummy (potentially my head vampire) and looking at these TAG minis for thralls:

Maybe these pulp minis too too:

Anyone any other ideas, really need to get the rules from Wendy so I can get a better idea but any suggestions gratefully received. Won't go down the myths and legends route until I've got a better idea of backstory, but for now as I say, any suggestions?

If you stray from the Vampire faction into the Gentleman's club area one of the associations that Gentlemens clubs has allows you to summon a mob of zombies for which you could use the Terra Cotta zombies.

If a Gentlemens Club could have the option of having some troops flying on warkites as seen in the original League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vol 1

Hmmm. I'm thinking of Doctor Who, the Talons of Weng-Chiang..... Could make a great Vampire faction.  Mr. Sin would look great on the table.

I'd second looking at LoEG vol1 for inspiration. Plenty of, how shall we say, useable stereotypes available  :)

I would also check out Wyrd Miniatures.

They have a Resurrectionist and themed minions (Kirai & crew) that would work well if you are after  creatures, spirits and monsters.

They also have some Mercenaries that could be useful either as-is or with some simple conversion work (namely: Ronin, Ten Thunder Brothers, Misaki).

I fact, it's worth a good look through their range in general if you're not already familiar with it, as it is full of steampunky types that could fit into EotD quite easily.

It's the rules I need to see what 'fits' my ideas so thanks for this, yup have the terra cotta zeds in a box somewhere so nice idea.

Yup got a few of these too and was looking again last night. Want to stay with a victorian theme so may well do some oriental headswops onto 19th Century victoria dress for a little culture clash.

Cheers.

Mark,

You seem to have China on your mind a lot these days... ;)
But don't forget Bushido....
I know its Japanese, but the large dragon is very nice indeed and still looks very chinese....  ( i was thinking of doing a chinese vampyr faction myself just because of all those old chinese ghost stories... )

There are also some other figures that would work well... like monks and old men etc etc... Oh, and the models are very very nice indeed....

You could add in a mob of Boxer Rebellion henchmen too.
Maybe even let them be actually bulletproof

All really good ideas and currently not too expensive as I have a number of minis already. Methinks tis time for the rulebook so I can work out direction of travel.

End of the day, I'm not looking to shoehorn a chinese faction into the equation, but create a reasonably myth and historically linked group, with a definate victoria flavour.

The main question is...

What are you going to do for scenery  ;) :D

That is the only thing stopping me from doing EotD.

The whole point of the game, as far as I am concerned, is to play it in London.
Otherwise it just becomes another variant of Vampire Wars, where most people play a country enviroment.

Urban Victorian just seems so much of a commitment that, frankly, it scares me.
Dont get me wrong, I aint scared of doing the scenery, it would be great fun, but not too much longevity in it.

Still looks like a lot of fun, and the way it is attracting attention on here, it looks well doable.
Maybe we need to group our plans and make sure we have an amazing BLAM(!???!) game where we all have to bring an item or two of scenery and see what happens....

My tuppence.....
