Anyone know where I can get a good crane?
« on: 06 July 2012, 04:49:12 AM »
So, I decided I need some smaller 'Nefs for my Norwegians, to use as Scouts or Cargo Carriers, as Mjollnir and Gungnir are solely military and too important to have in every battle.  My question is, does anyone know where I can get a crane to put on this?

I'm drawing a blank, and I figure if I set it up right, I'll be able to switch out weapons mounts and a crane, or cargo boxes, etc.  Anyone have an idea? And don't tell me to scratchbuild one - neither attempt has looked good or worked.

Have a scout round the model railway suppliers, they have plenty of goods dock type cranes if that's the sort of thing you're looking for. In OO gauge  Ratio one looks fairly good. Depends how big you want it

Try "yard crane" in google.

Yard crane...excellent.  Perfect.  All I was getting was the big ones with 'cockpits' on them.

I love this forum - not one person says a word about the crazed idea of a floating crane  (Physics says you crazy) but I get several helpful suggestions.

If you can't find a suitable crane you might try using a stork!    lol

The old Airfix crane is would be good, if you could still find one:

EDIT:  Oh, I see that this Airfix kit is the same as the Dapol one that Fastolfrus mentioned.

Arteis - as far as I am aware Dapol picked up all of the old Airfix railway moulds.

Might be worth asking Jimbibbly where he got his crane:

I have that Ratio crane. It scales really well with 28's. I using if for a VSF dockside I've been slowly building.
