Lunar Mine Head Crane
« on: December 05, 2012, 01:33:44 AM »
One of the primary targets in our Lunar Campaign are capturing of enemy mine head facilities to deny them of the resources and increase ones own access to same. Saying that though I realized I did not have a suitable item for the battlefield representation of it. So, a couple hours rummaging through the bits box and assorted cast offs and I roughed one up:

The "bucket will be attached by chains to the main chain. Painting required of course.

Motorized it with a tread system and base metal paint on the body:

Lifting bucket also suspended. Going to add some sort of stabilizing drop post legs to the four corners of it to give it more of a believable support system.... ;) Also adding service deck in the rear, smoke stack and a few other features to round it out. Company color is ...mmmm... not sure yet, the basic metal color just to bring the varied pieces of plastic colors to something more ... viscerally appealing! So... on the moon, figuring not a lot of rust but lots of dust....

God above, Alfrik, I miss your style here in Saint Louis.

And the style you bring to the war game table.

Off topic - SCA still functional out there in the Left Coast?

Nice work!

Gracias,

Glenn

Glenn, the SCA goes on here in the West, slowed by the economy (less discretionary money for weekend events)....

Sorry, curmudgeon in me is coming out; REALLY liked the result, *except* for the small tracks. Even on the moon. Even if you add 'posts'.

I suppose whatever you add to the rear to visually counter-balance would help, though.

I'll hush up now.

Indeed! As long as the crane and the operator are happy with his tracks it should not matter what others think is "large enough."   ;)   lol
