New to the Russo-Japanese war

Ok I heave heard about port Arthur and the Russo-Japanese war, but I really don't know much about it.
Any books, movies, web sites and folks can sujest would be pretty cool.

There's a decent movie called "Battle of the Japan Sea."  One of those movies from the 1970's where they built 5 foot ship models and film them in show motion.  It deals with the land aspects, too.

My brother is rather interested in this war, and also enjoys spending his sunday afternoons roaming round antique fairs. The two things came spectacularly together when he found an original "Japan's Fight for Freedom" by Herbert Wrigley Wilson. It was written at the time, is unashamedly pro-Japanese, and is chock full of cool pictures (both photos and illustrations).

Interesting question as to whether it counts as a colonial conflict or not...

Yes, I've been mulling that one over myself. I think we have discussed whether it counts before, actually, though I can't remember what we decided. 

It's a Great Power conflict, so you could argue it belongs in "Big Battalions." On the other hand it was two colonial powers fighting over other peoples' countries where neither of them really had any business being.

So I'm easy, it can go in either.

Also I think it counts as a Colonial conflict, because even thought it was two of the great players of the era. They were fighting to secure colonial holdings in there own back yard if you will.
Russia to secure Manchuria and port Author and Japan to Secure its hold over Korea.
But if the moderators say otherwise then let it be. I am cool ether way

I thought the criterion for Colonial inclusion was that someone had to be wearing a pith helmet. Fortunately for this thread and the notion of general tidiness I understand some Russian officers so equipped themselves in the summer months.

I agree, its kind of falls under both. Kind of like The Sano-Japanese war and the 1882 Anglo-Egyptian War, Spanish American war and the 2nd Boar war up until the bitter ender phase.

Sort of Hybrid conflicts.

I am hoping these will provide what I need. I am looking of info on the common solders of both nations dearing this conflict. What they were known for.
