Minis I would like to see made
« on: July 09, 2012, 04:17:01 PM »
Now that I'm finally going to have some WWWII forces, here's some minis I would like to see. Sorry if it sounds like a rant :P

1) 28mm dead Grey Aliens. Do you know these little guys from Tengu Models?

I would like to have some dead/dying/wounded ones for my GI/Nazis/Soviets/etc to rescue/defend. And some warrior forms, like the Greys from the now defunct Griffin Miniatures line, or the Thrade from 3d-miniatures.com

2) 1/48 Nazi UFOs both intact or crashed - I know that it could be kitbashed with a frisbee or something similar and I know about all those cool (but hard to find) models made by: Testors, Atlantis, Pegasus and Monogram (I'm still sorry for not buying of of these - I think Steve F was selling one). But I would like to see some specific Nazi ones (Haunebu and such) for my Allied forces to recover or steal ;) Agis made something similar but in 15mm:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=16077.0

3) Nazi Combat Mages - I saw a similar conversion in the SOTR forum (but I can't find it now). German officer with robes but with an armoured vest/helmet. Lots of runes in the robes and throwing fireballs from both hands. A cool figure to assassinate or protect ;)

4) A Tesla medium infantry support weapon - imagine crossing a M2 .50 Browning machine gun with this:

Add some Tesla Coils and you get a Tesla support weapon. Heavy to carry (all that energy has to come from batteries) and very effective against enemy infantry and light mechs/vehicles/monsters ;)

5) A not-Wolfenstein Übersoldat - Big, armored (with some gothic style armour), wielding twin MG-42 (Hauptgefreiter idea and description)

So..these are just some of my ideas for minis. Has anyone tried to kitbash something similar? What are your own ideas?

If you could get enough people interested in similar minis, maybe we could hire a scupltor and make some minis for us? Let's call it a "LAF kind-of Indiegogo/Kickstarter" ... ;)

Since I mentioned the UFOs...here's what inspired me:

German and US stuff is easy enough, but what about the rest? UK can be what, druids? Then I was thinking dragon/lancaster bombers. I acutually sculpted some up in 3mm scale for a polish company, Im not sure if they have been released yet?

But finnish yetis? Australian dream time units?

I was going to mention UK combat mages/druids but I swear I saw some in the AE-WW2 line of minis from Darkson Designs. But I must confess I never thought about Dragon bombers, Finnish yetis and Dream time units.  :o

Sadly, "Dream Time" units would be mostly animal spirits, so not terribly exciting really. The idea of using Australian myths could work, but Bunyips and Yowies would probably just function like Werewolves in most WWWII games.

Looking at Australian history, having "Blacktrackers" and maybe some kind of jungle fighting rules would probably be more 'correct', although some kind of bodging rules may be good too (just look up the drip-rifle).

But finnish yetis?
No yetis in Finland or even in Finnish folklore really, sorry :P

I can think of two reasonable options for Finnish weird war stuff: "ghost" snipers (the Russians may even well have really thought the Kukushkas were a bit supernatural) and magical singers @ Väinämöinen.

The latter would mostly affect the ability of the enemy to advance by beduffling them, at least seeming altering the very landscape around them - one of the best known feats of Väinamöinen is to have sung his adverasary into a bog and he managed similar stuff several times in Kalevala and the poems that inspired it. All just by plucking at his kantele and singing :o

The former would pick them off one by one, possibly without ever giving up their location and even if found, refusing to die when shot at with ordinary bullets - and when shot with blessed/silver/psychic/magical/whathaveyou "speshul bullet" the only thing that is found at the foot of the tree is a dead and completely black... cuckoo o_o

I grant that neither would probably make a very interesting miniature, depending on how ghostly you'd like to make the Kukushka. But I do believe very few minis carrying a kantele exist so one would need to be made for that at any rate...

---

As to the weird war stuff I'd like to see made that I don't think is widely available is British Red Coat heads of ca. 1870's on but with gasmasks/respirators. But that's maybe more @ Victorian Scifi I suppose.

Yep that's more Victorian than WWW2, but thanks for the Finnish lore ideas  :o

I've got a couple of world mythology books that I need to check out.

You should note that the ghost snipers would definitely not be the good guys if described as per the above scenario. The completely black magical critter that refuses to die when assailed with regular weapons refers to Satanic forces at play in the (newer) Finnish folklore. But then again, the Finns were allied with Germans in WWII (part of the time) so given the Nazis almost invariably use black magic in WWWII scenarios, it's pretty much a given their allies have certain type of "contacts" as well lol

I always imagined the Tesla coil gun to be a more man portable gun, like a WW2 flame thrower. But one man lugging the batteries and a cable connecting that to the other guy shooting the gun. A bit like the Germans using their light machine guns supported on the shoulder of the guy in front and they have to move in pairs.

I have already done my own set up out of odds and ends but some American G.I Robots. Bit like the Iron Giant from the Disney movies, but man sized Armed with Thommy Guns and BAR's to bring the fight to Jerry.

Some of the Crimson skies Aircraft done up in 1/48th scale for my SOTR table as an objective and Some done up in 1/72 so i can have some dogfight with WW2 planes.

Some Hammer Horror inspired British monster hunters and monsters pressed into service for His Majesties fighting forces abroad.

Just some ideas off the top of my head before i go off to bed. I am sure i will think of more tomorrow to add to the list.

Ok, scratch one from my list. Those little guys will do fine. Are they going to be available soon?

Lots of great ideas there, specially the tesla gun! I'm doing some giant GI robots (not mechs) using Iron Man toys.

Okk, well finnish moomin trolls with guns then!

You can get german goblins from somewhere? But then other stuff too, some egyptian stuff would be pretty easy, North Africa being a theater of war. Then you have things like the Irish folk lore, Finn and stuff. Some warp spasm figures in allied uniforms would be cool, as would firbolgs and the like.
