Looking for a set of rules for ECW
« on: 10 July 2012, 01:24:32 AM »
Greetings folks.

I've started working on some forces for ECW and I've checked out a couple of rules sets - Victory without Quarter (free) and Black Powders' Pike and Shotte. I'm not sure about either set. From reading the Black Powder set reeks of the Warhammer Fantasy mechanism which I'm not honestly happy about. But as it is I have yet to play the rule so I can't make a true assessmsnt. I've also considered the Fog of War rules set however, I haven't had a look them as yet.

Can the combined experience of all you fine gentlemen shead some light on the pros and cons of these (and other) rule sets. Also... I'm looking to expand into 30YW after getting a handle on the period with ECW so a rules set that works for both would be best.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Peter Pig do a set - Regiment of Foote - that is quite good but has possibly the best set-up section that I have seen.
It's called the campaign section, but only takes a few minutes and decides who is attacker and who is defender.
Interestingly it's possible to finish the "campaign" with an attacker that is heavily outnumbered by the defender.
The rules work on a points system and both players start with 400, but I've played as attacker with 350 vs a defender with 450, I've also attacked with a reduced force and no artillery (stuck in mud on the way to the field)
