News from Howard Whitehouse

Roderick Robertson and I announce the formation of Pulp Action Library, a very
tiny game company indeed. We'll be releasing our 1920s Prohibition Era shoot
'em up rules, "Mad Dogs With Guns" within the next few weeks.

“Mad Dogs” uses the core mechanisms from “Astounding Tales!”,
but in a more structured and  - I hate
this word – “realistic” way, in that Big Shots can get shot, and  puny mob ‘associates’
can get lucky with a cheap pistol every now and then. You can drive like a
maniac, throw dynamite through your rival’s window, and occasionally get beaten
up by a little old lady.

It has a full set of gangland scenarios and a campaign
system to run rackets in the imaginary, yet totally corrupt, city of Paradise,
Illinois.

This is done in association with Copplestone Castings'
"Gangsters - Mad Dogs With Guns" range of figures.

We'll be using the Wargames Vault/RPG Now/DrivethruRPG system, which offers
both pdfs and paper versions.

After that we'll do our long in-progress Stupid Barbarian Fantasy game,
"Chainmail Bikini." It’s more the “Rat on a stick!” barbarian ethos
than the brooding hero. It’s hard to write good rules for brooding.

And we have a very short game we might do
as well, called "Eat Hitler - the Nazi Taste Treat", which is about
unsuccessful time travel by the leaders of the Third Reich. It’s an expanded
version of the rules I did for Wargames Illustrated a year or so ago. All the
players portray dinosaurs, who instinctively know that Nazis taste yummy. Like
bacon, probably --

Looking forward to these rules, though. :D

Are these the same that appeared in one of the wargames magazines some time ago? If so, great.

How about the town of Cicero - as in the Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui?
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

'Eat Hitler' was in WI last year. Dave Taylor of WI says he has some more photos we can use, and we'll expand  the rules with important additions like the "Goering causes indigestion" option.

Is this post in answer to me or fastolfrus?

Is this the same Roderick Robertson that I have been trying to get the Runequest/Call of Cthulhu mass combat rules from but without any luck until now.

I'd have to double check on this, but I'm pretty sure one of the Runequest books released by Mongoose included mass battle rules.

So many questions when I leave the house for a few hours!

1) Answer about 'Eat Hitler' -- applies to anyone who wants to know about it.

2) Cicero, Illinois, while in its time a crime-ridden sinkhole of corruption, is not the same as 'Paradise' which is a fictional crime-ridden sinkhole of corruption.

3) I don't know whether Roderick can supply anyone with those rules. He's at GenCon this week, but I'll pass the message.

And there I spent all that time digging out WI 215&216 on Sunday when all I had to do was wait a couple of weeks.

Best wishes and good luck with the new enterprise Howard.

I'm now trying to picture the phrases 'The Irresistible Rise of Arturo Ui' and 'hands up you dirty rats' being delivered in a brummie accent.  :D
