That's a splendid looking piece of terrain. It looks rather post-Roman though, since Romans loved to paint anything from statues to whole buildings – in sometimes, erm, interesting colours. ;)
Have a look at a reconstructed watchtower here.

PS: The "horngeld" was seemingly a Germanic/Saxon tax on horned cattle.

I got it from a David Bream paperback on Hadrian's Wall....if I can find it (books almost as badly organised as the lead mountain  :'() I'll quote it verbatim.....horned cattle make more sense but I wonder where the copper 'horn' came from??

Many thanks to all of you.

@The Dozing Dragon  : may be one copper coin for one cattle ???

@Mad Doc Morris : you really think Hadrian wall was like the reconstructed tower in your link ? All the photos I saw from (today) ruins of this wall , show fieldstone wall...

@Blackwolf : well... That's another story...   ;) First I want to finish some Four or six "wall modules"... W'll see after !

I have read in various places that the wall was plastered- would have looked quite imposing stretching across the land!

Walls weren't necessarily as neatly painted as shown in the reconstructed example. But as Dozing Dragon said, there's evidence and it would've been an impressive sight even if less elaborate in design. It seems silly work nowadays, but manpower wasn't really an issue in antiquity, while soldiers had to be kept busy in order to prevent mutinous thoughts. ;)

Excellent.

I like the pictures where we can see the wall and window of your house behind the Hadrian wall! Do you fear that the Picts could attack your house, coming from your garden ?  lol

Hello,

@Patrice :  It will be a complete fort, a 'mile fort' I think they called it. And all the faces where you have windows will be enclosed...
So I need at least 3 corners more and 2 others walls...
I need to cast more Hirst Arts bricks  :) :) :)
