My first three Mantic Corporation Rangers.
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:39:47 PM »
I wanted to see how these would look with a very quick paint job. I primed them in black. Then followed with a dry-brush of Reaper Ghoul skin and another of Moldy Skin (I think). Black lined a bit. Painted the guns and the helmet lens and it was good to go.

Nice! Very Halo-ish.

They look great. And indeed, Halo-ish.

Halo indeed.

Perfectly suitable sci fi humans, if you ask me.

I held out for the Enforcers.

May I enquire if the arms really are ape like in their length or is it an angle of shot thing. This conundrum has put me off getting these.

I think it might be the backpacks looking like extended shoulders in the shot angles. But I get what you mean.

The minis are not my cup of tea. I like the painjobs and the models will work well for sci-fi, but just not my style and the guns are very ugly. Imo.

I'm always happy to see new miniatures, but these leave me feeling cold....zero enthusiasm or excitement from me.  I got the same feeling with the initial box of Defiance Games marines, just an overwhelming "meh..." sensation.

The arms are pretty long, but I think that's an issue with the shoulder pads. They are way big and yet seem to mount too low on the torso. These aren't my favorite miniatures, but I don't hate them either. I plan to use them as generic baddies in random sci-fi role-playing games. That's why I was testing how fast I could paint them and still have presentable figures for a board. In that capacity they work just fine.

I suppose you'd need to cut off the upper part of the arm. But that might still leave the lower arm too long, can't say about that. Perhaps a better alternative would be to swap the entire arm for something else, maybe a Wargames Factory arm. The latter are decent and often available for cheap from bitz shops.

It's obvious from the pic that even a good paintjob can't hide their deformities, unfortunately. They do seem to have improved with the Enforcers.
