Asylum of the daleks: great inspiration.
« on: September 01, 2012, 08:03:54 PM »
Proper daleks, I-daleks, old school 70's daleks, special weapons daleks, (nice touch re radiation madness link) and puppets, (living and zombie) perfect opportunity for some dalek on dalek action and some great potential gaming  ideas too.

Gives me an excuse to finally do something with all those sodding placcy daleks I've acquired over the years and a shit  load of micro universe ones.

Quick question: anyone any comparison shots of the micro universe daleks with say blacktree metals, especially the special weapons dalek?

Cheers

Left to right:
1 Harlequin/Black Tree 1st Doctor
2 Citadel plastic Dalek (so old it's painted with Humbrol enamels)
3 Harlequin/Black Tree Dalek
4 Micro-Universe Dalek
5 Doctor Who Adventures freebie 2005-style Dalek
6 Doctor Who Adventures freebie 2010-style Dalek (1st version, with the better-shaped dome)
7 Heresy Nerdlord II

Note: the Micro-Universe Dalek is on a slightly thicker base than the others.

THIS site has some "hot off the press" stills from Asylum, plus a nice guide to Dalek colour schemes.

Well a little trip into the attic tonight, 12 MU daleks found, add one new stanley knife blade, some patience, one cut finger and all have been released from their rubbery bases, also cut a number of their domes off to allow for a little variety re: head turning position.

Pics once the phone's charged.

Take a look at this:

http://www.shapeways.com/model/247325/28mm-dalek-trooper-sprue.html

I'm not sure how the actual sprue looks, that is a 3d printing company, the picture is the 3d model they would print it from.

He also has this one  which doesn't seem to be for sale yet:

Sorry for the delay, nothing special just the 12 plus a few I-daleks that were kicking around that I'll paint as supreme and drones with that new metallic red look for the drones, (nice). (Couple of stone daleks there too I did a while back and never completely finished).

I carefully cut the domes away from the neck bins using my very sharp, (ow!) newly rebladed stanley), I'll mount them looking in different directions for a bit of variety.

I'll also be getting some black tree earlier marks and a SWD or two.

Slow burn but thought I'd share.

If you are really clever, you could do a swivelling dome or two.

Steve F, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find proxies for Darla the Dalek and the Robomen.

"Puppets" seems to be the term this time.  I was thinking of starting with a trawl through that "Dark Age" S&M faction, given that straps and spiked heels seemed to be the order of the day; for the crew of the "Alaska", maybe the infantry in parkas that Whiffwhaff sculpted - 4A sells them, I think.  But conversions will probably be needed.
