1930's-40's Landing Craft Finished
« on: September 24, 2012, 05:56:41 PM »

I decided to scratch build a landing craft-supply vessel of the type common to the inter-war years and Second World War.  So I started with the basic hull pieces.  The black piece will be a Japanese style pilots shield

The vessel is a bit of a cross between a USN Higgins Boat and a IJN Dai Hatsu.  The idea being it's a heavily used and modified unit that has seen years of service.

The boat was designed for use with 28mm pieces.  Here the model is ready for final touches and painting.

Thanks, yes the main structure is balsa.  The grill, wheel, pilot house are plastic. the funnel is a flex straw,  the life perervers are green putty and the cables are fine gage wire twisted together.
