Last Night on Earth
« on: 28 September 2012, 05:20:47 PM »
Does anyone have this boardgame?

http://www.flyingfrog.net/lastnightonearth/

Just wondering what the minis are like that come with it? What kind of quality are they and do they scale up with 28mm stuff? And probably more importantly, is the game any good?

The previous threads about this game might help:

These are the minis as I painted them up:

I just bought the survivors, not the game or the zombie figures.  They're slightly slenderer and more realistically proportioned than the Hasslefree and Crooked Dice figures they're standing next to on my shelf, but not so much that it leaps out at you.  The plastic is quite unpleasant to paint: it seems almost to push the brush away from it.
Back from the dead, almost.

For the record, Flying Frog  sold the miniatures (zombies and heroes) seperately fpr a fairly good price a while back, I bought a few packs back then :)

LNOE is a good game but I prefer Zombicide. LNOE is not a real cooperative game like Zombicide as one or 2 players play the zombies and the other cooperate to play the survivors. So you get smart (intelligent??) zombies. You can buy more miniatures as they are sold on Flying Frog website and you can download new scenarios too.

The miniatures are well sculpted but the plastic is not as hard as Zombicide miniatures so they are not easy to paint (a bit like Aifix plastic soldiers). If you bend the arms or weapons for instance the paint might crack.

Both games are different but great if you like zombie games like I do.
I wish I were an octopus to paint more miniatures...Cthulhu must be a great painter

My next acquisitions are scheduled to be LNOE and maybe Zpocalypse, but I'd like to see more of that game first before I shell out a Benjamin.

Not played Zombicide but LNOE is co-operative to survive - if the survivours go off on their own they are doomed. The Zombies are subject to some limitations on movement and ability use. The Ramdom survivour movement can at first be rather frustrating (for both survivours and Zombies) but does cover lucky escapes and getting surrounded with no way out well.

The bending of the figures is the biggest problem I have found, especially the baseball bat chap bending at the ankles. I did see somewhere someone suggest stiffining the figures by drilling up through the legs and inserting pins.

I straightened up all my LNoE figures by dipping them into hot water, then bending them into shape and holding them under cold water.

IF you want to start somewhere, go with LnoE.  Its a really good game and up until Zombicide, our fav coop Zom game.  Scenario driven, dice rolls for movement and cards for items and altering actions.
Movement is simple (zoms 1, humans 1d6).  Cards can help Zoms move farther
Items acquired by searching rooms and can be traded between ppl.
I think you can have 6 or 8 humans and the zoms can have 1-2 players, but I usually play the zoms alone vs the rest of the table.

you can probably find it cheap on ebay or trade it for something.

Z-cide is a definite move up in the right direction (I considerate the next step up from LnoE) but the price is a def. drawback.

Yes, the price is steep, but you do get a log of figures for it. LNOE MSRP is about $60. You get 22 figures (8 Hero and 22 Zombies.). Zombicide goes for about $80-$100. You get 71 figures (6 survivors and 65 Zombies).

With LNOE, there are almost too many things that the cards can do. I like the smaller cards and smaller decks in Zcide that are pretty simple. Search and get equipment/supplies (or a zombie) or the Zombie deck that spawns assorted zombies depending on level of the characters.
Looking for a set of rules that adaptable for different genres.

I used to have LNOE and a bunch of the expansions but ended up selling them on when I got into Zombicide. Mrs Fish likes co-op games and didn't enjoy the adversarial nature of two-player LNOE, I quite liked the theme (evoking the atmosphere of a schlock horror B-grade film) but the roll-and-move mechanic left me a little cold. We both enjoy Zombicide so it was a pretty easy decision to sell LNOE.

The LNOE miniatures are of reasonable quality and paint up quite well.
