I saw a good review of STEA in WI/Battlegames(?) recently, I think. I will get a copy eventually I'm certain. I've read a lot of the Peter Hopkirk books (though not STEA itself) and it's a great period/area.

Waiting for this month's credit card billing period to end first! I notice that Against the Odds has "Guns of the Askari" covering WW1 East Africa as its current game, so I may subscribe to that.

I have been to work today  (the first time this month)  and guess what was waiting for me on the door mat when I got home?  That's right STEA all beautifully wrapped up just waiting to be read. Cup of tea, biscuit and book there is nothing more I need for the next hour and then off fencing.

Bye for now

If you use The Sword and The Flame, you have units of 20 figures at most, so your 50 figure come on will certainly work.  The only problem I found with BoB,  is that you need gamers who are willing to do a bit of role playing, which I did not have.

Yes, dear Commissar Bollo. I think we were both bidding on that at one point. Luckily i stopped as i'd spoken to Dave/Cavalier Books ..  lol

Perhaps we squeeze in a game, off piste as it were, at some point soon?

Hi. S&TF is a favourite of mine since John introduced it to me some time back. At one point i tried to fit into everything i played.

Now i tend to keep it for Colonial gaming (NWF, Sudan etc) and use dedicated rules for each other period i.e. In the Heart of Africa/Death in the Dark Continent, Muskets and Tomahawks/TVG, Disposable Heroes (SCW variant) etc

I bought Price of Glory to try for BoB but think i'll move to STEA fairly quickly as its period specific.

Personally, i don't see any real role-playing in BoB other than gaming (mildly) in character. I think its the scenarios and individual character objectives that set the tone of the game.

I'm planning on running campaigns if this takes off with the fellas

Cheers, James

Sorry about that!

Had a very quick read last night, this morning and am pleased with the flow, as you say we need to get some practice in soonish.

 lol

All is fair in love and war(gaming)!! [notes actions of the double dealing communist swine in the book of JFO'T pending paybacks]  ;)

Looking forward to that game. I have British/Sikhs painted as you know.

First batch of 10 Pulp Chinese bandits should be with me shortly. I'll paint up the One-armed Sutton and Two-Gun Cohen figures (and a misc Adventurer type) over the weekend

I have my copy of STEA rules. Dave/Cavalier books - you top banana!  :D

Those chinese bandists arrived too. Unlikely allies (for now) to the British but, hey, this is the Back of Beyond and anything and everything goes  lol

STEA  - first possibly stupid question ...

What do you use for your Action Cards?

I have some leftover business cards from another job.  I just scribble the unit name on them.  I'm thinking about doing a custom deck at artscow at some point

I use little blank cards you can pick up from any stationers.  Usually about 4" x 3"

Your STEA rulebook looks great Sir! I've only had a flick at it for now but the photos alone are inspiring*

I'm cleaning/basing my Sutton/Cohen & bandit figures at the moment

Cheers, James

* good to see that i can use my German Askari/Schutztruppe too for this period  ;)
