A fascinating story, the Arab leg of which I always planned to make into a game.

But never did.

The one that always amused me was the ponderously slow (unseaworthy) ship that saw the Emden, and by the time the Enden boarding party arrived the crew were lined up neatly on deck waiting with their suitcases packed.

The Emden story and the crew's return to Germany has been one of my all-time favourite sagas since I was a kid. There are some excellent books available.

If you're ever visiting Sydney, go to Hyde Park. One of the Emden's guns was salvaged and has been installed there, pointing up Oxford St.

My favourite story is the Emden radio operators picking up an "open" (not encrypted) radio broadcast message asking "Emden. Where are you?". They wisely decided not to reply.

Hope they get Lauterbach right. A lager than life character.

For the German speaking members who wants to get their sons into that topic have a look at this book:

Wüstenmatrosen von Olaf Fritsche
http://www.fantasyguide.de/7785.0.html

The story is about Jan Petersen from Kiel signing on for duty on the Emden...

Funny coincidence as the Landungstrupp of the  Emden was on my list to get done as miniatures. Maybe it would have gotten me into an IP-case with this movie coming up.  lol

Although I'm really looking forward to it, I'm a little bit worried about the compulsory love story.  :? (And Ken Duken and Felicitas Woll not being particular favourites of me doesn't help my worries either but we'll see.  ;))

There's also a very nice documentary available titled 'Unter kaiserlicher Flagge: Karawane der Matrosen' (first part, a second one is titled 'Hetzjagd vor Kap Hoorn' and deals with a different ship), the English title seems to be 'Hunt the Kaiser's Cruisers'.

Sculpt the miniatures anyway - most films (other than Star Wars) disappear within a year. And an IP case would be difficult if you work from original pictures.
You could also argue that you are making them as a commemorative/memorial item.

The IP-case is just a joke. I'd have gone for historical accurateness anyway.  ;)

But as usual, too many ideas, too little time.  ;D
