Corgi Thornycroft double decker conversion to safari explorer
« on: November 15, 2012, 02:21:29 AM »
I am playing around with using this a vehicle to mimic hunting from elephant back but for use in a lost world.  Took the bus apart primed it with khaki rustoleum and thinking of how to trick it out next.

Hunting elephants or Kong - cause Kong's gonna squash that thing!!  :o

I think it looks really cool. What about some large parasols - can't let those pale Great White Hunter types get a sunburn.

Perhaps some "boiler plate" armor around the driver and on the lower windows (with gun slots). Some type of Maxim, Lewis, or Vickers mount on the upper deck. A canvas sunscreen for part of the upper deck might work. Maybe you could add a "capture seat" on one of the front fenders for the poor bloke who has to use the "lasso on a stick" to catch a Raptor!!!  :o

Very cool ideas.  I want to do a canvas top and a mountd gun would be amazing but  I really like the capture seat and will start thinking of ways to work that out.

Nice bus but I have to ask... Where did you get that Kong?
I've been looking for the right sized Kong and he looks just right.

It's a Wild Safari male gorilla that I modified with a resculpted mouth area and added bulk in the back, shoulders, and upper arms.

That's a good 'un, perhaps a punkha too and some stowage, steamer trunks and the like. .

Here are some comparison pics.  I took out the seats in the lower cabin and made wood floors on both levels from Balsa wood.  If this turns out right I may buy more and make a caravan with each bus being specialized for a purpose.  This will obviously be the upper class hunters' car with ridiculous amenities.

Smirnoff did a conversion job on one of those for his "BoB Whacky Races" games. You can see the bus (and read about it's questionable crew) in his thread: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=40714.0

Might give you some ideas!

Looking great - what plans for the driver as I am stumped on that. Nothing available that actually fits these vehicles or looks 'realistic' enough, they all seems to stiff to me.
