No dont do a kickstarter, there owerdone and youl lose more then you win.
People only think they get on kickstarter to get cheapfigs that actually cost the companies money with cheap pledge extras and stuff.

Steve, you are a smart cookie. Those ICE troops ad a very interesting edge to the game. You could say, a frozen Enclave. The variations of gamining possible within SSS are pretty impressive. Survivors jumping the Ice camp at night for supplies, get out of town before Ice shows up to disinfect the village, ice rescuing survivors pinned down...

How will the rules change for them Steve? As your rules for SSS are all about the non professionals, general people trying to survive. Will these guys have a cheaper point limit? So can can have more gear? Or just give them a full loadout?

Cheers
Matt

I wouldn't worry about the threat of a KS.
I have a feeling that Mr Invader has a firm grip on exactly where he is going with this as he has planned the range just right so far.
I have complete faith that next year he will be taking a large wad of cash off of my hands hands with this carefully thought-out approach.

Incidentally, ICE..... ice..... Well it amused me!  lol

ICE...yep, got that.
Now they just need their personnel carrier, fully armed with deafening music and Mr Whippy cannons..... ::)

Someone should do a wrecked tanker/cargoboat stuck in ice as a board.

I prefer Vampires, for zombies I have 7Zombies ;). Your new stuff is nice, but the option with changeable heads would be brilliant. Not only masked soldiers, even with helmets and more. I think of Icestation Zebra, or so....
But in the end it is your stuff and a lot of people like it. What is about the buildings fronts? Do you release them???

(I promise to watch 30Days of Nights again to Backup my knowledge...) o_o

Bloody hell Steve, you want MORE of my money?!?!  Exciting new stuff!

One of the appeals of SSS for me is the sort of 'low fantasy' approach with limited mil-spec gear and the need to really hash things out amateur-style.  It gives a totally different flavor than any of my other post-apoc games which seem to need to feature super-people.  The snow motif only adds to the novelty!

@Nurg I think the reason that zeds are more popular than vampires is that there is still some stretch believability that there could be a sickness making people crazy enough to seem like 'zombies' that we can accept them in gaming as non-supenatural.  Once you go the vampire route, even via a 'sickness' it just cant break from some supernatural patina, so to speak.  On the other hand, there is absolutely nothing preventing you from adding vampires to your own game and writing up some rules to govern them.  I may not use them, but I for one would be keen to see what you come up with for your own games.

Cant wait to see these new guys up in your shop!

Thanks for all the replies chaps, much appreciated.  :D

I think that I mentioned at BLAM that a priority is to get the core rules right, then with an alpha (rather than a beta) finalised, the supplementary elements will start to come into play.  The supplements will be options that complement the core game including infected (zombies), ICE (faceless quasi-government forces), and I've also previously mentioned human-alien hybrids (gross mutant beings) and possibly vampire/werewolf types (the magical aspects are a problem to me but I think I have a sci-fi solution). There are other ideas but none that I want to share just yet.

The core game will always be about Joe Bloggs (or John Doe) having a hard time to survive but there'll therefore be plenty of options to add flavour, all, some or none of which might be brought into a game.  Those that remember my Aliens game from a few years back might recall that it developed to include zombies, predators and terminators.

I understand the desire for ICE troopers without helmets but an influence for me is the original Crazies movie, which I saw when way too young to see it.  I like the effect of a faceless operative who does inhuman things ostensibly to protect humanity.  Zombified ICE troopers without helmets, goggles and masks: you bet!

Regarding the design of the ICE troopers, that's the work of the sculptor, Adam Gayford. I saw the sculpts and they fitted my game spec, perfectly.

Which kind of brings me to my next point, which is the question about kickstarter.

If I kickstarted even some of what I have planned, the sculptors would be deluged with work, I'd have to take moulding/casting outside (and I brought it inside partly so I could fiddle and tweak and develop to continually improve the end product), followed in time by a mass mail out of product with (maybe) me making something of a profit.  But would I have built a lasting game with a tangible presence?  Perhaps but perhaps not. At the moment my primary concern is to develop and grow the game and its accompanying ranges rather than to risk it all on a chase for short term cash (though don't let that put you off buying folks..... I need sales to add to the ranges!   ;)  :D)

However, kickstarter does have its place in this project (and if managed well it can work very well).  When the core rules are finalised I'd like to publish a glossy rule book.  The full rules will be still be available as a free PDF but some people like a hardcover wrapped around printed words with pretty pictures, I know I do.  ;)

More thoughts in due course and thanks for your support.

Steve

I for one think I have if not the entire range, accessories and all, very near close.  With a very generous free shipping over 30gbp to Europe and even more reasonable proves overall, not to mention great sculpts in an unexplored topic, I'm very happy with my purchases.  I also have a small surprise to finish up once I get my PA mustang done and some more paint on Vikings...

And Steve is a heck of a gentleman to deal with.  Very approachable on ideas for making a PA snow table and tips on how to do snow.

Oh yes!  I'm basing my Zeds on these guys...I suspect Steve may have drawn some inspiration as well...

SSS precedes The Colony but a lucky coincidence if it motivates and helps others to imagine such a gaming environment.  :D.

I haven't actually seen the movie yet but the DVD is on my Xmas list.  ;)
