Thanks guys, the feedback is most appreciated  :D

Another update.....

...... The last two of the first four Winter Militia. These and the previous two will make up the first pack of four (though they'll also be available as singles).  Just to remind, they'll be shipped with a snow shoe option, which I'll add when I get the greens from Whiff Whaff.

I expect that later commissions/releases will lean more towards the balaclava than the exposed face.
My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

Looking at them, it looks like they could also be used as Chechen irregulars :-)

love them. Get them in the store and you get some of my hard-earned :)

Any chance of a female or 2 in militia loadout?

As for weapons, a number of large hauls of firearms in the UK have included everything from Eastern European Browning Hi-Power knock-offs through Czech Skorpions, up to and including at least one MG34. Something like that (or even better - a Bren gun!) would make an excellent support weapon. I believe my local force has one in their armoury that they seized some years ago.

Also most cadet groups have some weapons (may be de-act, but re-activateable with time, equipment, know-how and need) and I think all of the old bolt-action SA-80s issued to them have now been replaced with 'proper' semi-auto versions.

I have some interesting ideas for a militia group based out of the remains of either the Bovington tank museum (with a couple of old but functional vehicles) and a survivor group based at a newly re-fortified Old Sarum....

Cheers guys!  :D.

They'll be in store ASAP.  Greens should be with me soon, then I just have to sort the snow shoes that'll come with them as an option, which I can't do until I get the greens (I'm doing that bit rather than Adam (Whiff Whaff) as I'm not yet sure how I'll deal with the tab). So, it won't be long.  ;)

In principle, yes, I'd like there to be females as well, just need to sort a few more males first.   :)

As an aside, I am a big fan of Old Sarum castle.  8)

I based my game in the US, so you know, small arms a plenty!

Not sure about the rest of the world but the SKS is surprisingly popular in the US amongst militia groups and doomsday preppers. Considered very reliable, accurate at the required ranges and they have a low profile so they can be easily buried in the ground in sealed PVC pipes for later retrieval (cause, you know, Obama is after everyone's gun caches  lol). I personally find it amusing that die-hard 'made the USA' types are buying them up, but I suppose it is practical. AKs are actually kind of common as well. I know a guy that bought three Bulgarian versions for he and his sons.

Not trying to derail or turn political, just providing a little input into what types of firearm you'd see a lot of if the apocalypse happens tomorrow, at least in the USA. You'd see a real range of stuff, but mostly AR-15, shotguns, deer rifles, and 9mm pistols (places like NYC, Chicago, LA will be skewed toward pistols).  In the last episode of Walking Dead there was an Uzi, and I've never seen one of those in person (I don't go to gun shows).

I live in Kansas now, and let me tell you, there are LOTS of firearms of every stripe in my county, even some really obscure stuff.

When I lived in Nebraska my wealthy neighbor had several entirely legal fully automatic weapons- including a Hotchkiss MG, M16, a Browning 30 caliber MG, and a silenced Mac-10. No lie.

I personally like the 'open hands' idea where we choose what weapon to put in.

As a kid growing up in the north east it was shotguns and deer rifles which rules the day, and the occasional handgun.  Nowadays, what goes for Kansas can also easily be found in the Northeast as well.  If your PA story is 'lucky' enough to have a reserve base closeby, well mil spec is there as well.  But even barring this, the variety of small arms available to civilians is quite impressive.

I really like the idea of working in an underground civilian bunker at some point.  Maybe a refit missile silo of some kind or buried piping, of which I think I can model in a box.  These too, not only 1950's era, but with the 'survivalist' craze, are not all-together uncommon.  I come from a pretty quirky area of the country where a number of very interesting plot items can be used to create a great campaign, and it's easy to make up since it's based closely on what is available in real life. SSS will be my snow version of the game.

Quick update!

I put my back out (again ..... Woe is me  :'() which has caused a delay to mould making and casting  (and other stuff) but I am now 'back in the saddle'. Yay!

I have the winter militia greens and am sculpting optional snow shoes and skis.  I also have another group of minis with SA80s on the way.  Double yay!
