Vanvlak's 6mm scale water tile
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:18:01 AM »
The other week I started a 6mm scale set of scenery tiles built on - well, tiles. Floor variety, ceramic, 8" square. And as I was planned to have a beach and some water or lake tiles anyway, this fits me to a T.
My original plan was to simply include a few all-water tiles and some beach tiles, but since this competition cropped up I have to think up something better of course.
And I have 4 ideas.
One is already being attempted by someone else  :'( :'( :'(
But the other three are being pondered upon.

Past watery works - not many of these.

In these cases the focus was not the water, so I have to change my philosophy; but these were fun models to paint.

Time for a bout of existentialism and despair.

I have so far discarded eight ideas, including the one which Hammers is already doing and which I cannot hope to come close to.
The ninth is still lingering there, as ridiculous as they come.

The tenth and eleventh have just come to mind, and suddenly no. 9 seems a lot less stupid.

No. 12 is brilliant! But I cannot make it as it would be a diorama more than anything else, and I'd need an albatross, which I have no hope of sculpting.

What if you took elements of three, five and nine combined it with the core ideal of twelve and added the detail from one or two?

Does that help at all?
Saving the last bullet... just in case.

See my wonderful BLOG of stuff!

My god! You've done it! THAT'S exactly what I'll do!  :o

And so it begins, thanks to the recommendation to blend ideas.
First light:

Since I am getting rid of an old stock of ancient credit cards, I had to erase some pixels from the pic to avoid giving out card details to all and sundry....

Alone w.m.a., it's precisely what you suggested of course!
I still have to add most of the features you recommended, though, that's why you didn't recognise it. ;D

OK, couldn't resist that.
I'll be nice: it's to be mounted on tiles for my 6mm scale games very-modular board, and it's (hopefully) going to be a dam. Either that, or a complete mess.

Progress - oh the irony: my water won't dry! I usually get most model work done on weekends, so yesterday afternoon I 'placed' and sculpted the water - and thanks to the very high humidity here these days it won't dry.
Bah  >:(
I can't spray the thing (that's my next step) so all I can do is find the side-tiles (you'll see what I mean when I take the next steps) and any detail bits.
And take a pic, I guess.

Sprayed and painting is in progress - very little else to report.
No new pics yet.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly News:

The Good: it's completed - I managed to start AND finish something, for once.
The Bad: in order to finish it, I applied the water material to the structure shown in the pic above and left it to dry - and then I rushed through the remainder of the job in a couple of days without taking any further pics. Sorry guys  :(
The Ugly: the completed model, since it's a rush job - but I have to say I'm happy I managed to finish it, and from 10m distance it looks reasonably fine, so.... :D :D
