Come'th the lead mountain, well mole hill, for Dvx Britanniarvm:

The British form up for undercoating:

Edit: Of course I should have said that these are from the Musketeer Miniatures' Late Roman range (including a fresh out of the mould, Vortigern and standard bearer - thanks Darren :D )

Dr. The Viking's figures are also by Bill, but come from the Early Saxons' range.

Looking forward to following this project, just started painting a few late Romans for a Saga/Dux game. Trying to round out a few projects before the end of the year and clear a few backlogs.

Can I ask do you know how the Musketeer Late Romans scale up against Gripping Beast figures?
I've heard the Saxons are well scaled but the Romans are significantly taller.

Hi Mr J,

Here's a comparison shot against one of GB's British and Welsh Kingdoms sculpted by Soapy:

I think the GB Romano-British range is roughly the same size, but I've no figures from that range to put up  :(

Looks very promising indeed :) just started me own little SAGA adventure (vikings of course) but must admit I'm very tempted by using Bill's early Saxons for that game. Maybe they are more suited for 5th - 6th century, but still think they could work okay - and they do look very sweet.

Is it a 50 ft Woman!? Is it Owlbears!? Is it Klakks from Dimension X?

NO!

It is Saxon bowmen!

I have little or no idea what these guys would look like, but I claim the right of 'historical fantasy' and have painted them as I saw fit.

I made myself a 'proof of concept' yesterday... Worked out decently so now I just have to finish the last 36 odd miniatures. Easy does it.  :-X  lol
