American uniformed militia for War of 1812.
« on: 30 November 2012, 11:29:43 PM »
I finally finished my first unit for my (North American) War of 1812 skirmish project. I have finished a unit (plus a few extras) of uniformed militia riflemen. Specifically the 5th Regiment Indiana Volunteers, Harrison County mounted Rifles (or the "Yellow Jackets" for short). This is also the unit I re-enact with, so I get to play with this unit at two scales now.... 1/1, and 28mm(1/56).

Now to start on some woodland natives (Indians), and then on to American and British regulars.....

If I knew who the evil genius was, I wouldn't need a diabolical plot to find him...

Cool! Are those Old Glory?  Can't quite tell in the picture what the manufacturer is...regardless, it reminds me that I have a bunch of War of 1812 stuff to get painting!

Those are actually made by Knuckleduster. I am using many Old Glory minis for some of the opposing and allied forces (the American Line Infantry/Regulars I have to go with these are Old Glory).

I like the details on the Knuckledusters a little bit better, but I have no complaints about any of the Old Glory minis I have to go with these.

Ah yes, Knuckleduster.  I love their figures.  My collection is a mix of Knuckleduster and Old Glory for the Americans and Victrix/Perry/Foundry for the British and Canadians.  I was hoping to get a good pile of the painted by the end of the year but, in typical gamer fashion, I got side-tracked by some 15mm WWII stuff.  Sheesh!   lol

Just finished a blockhouse for these.... And their native opponents are about half done (I am a slow painter).

Basically I followed the instructions from 158 to 160 in Wargames Illustrated  issue 300.... I did double the size (the article is originally aimed at 15mm miniatures), and I altered the pattern to make not only the roof removable, but also the top section of the blockhouse so the base could be gotten to from above if desired.

The blockhouse looks good, but is it a bit tall?

Yeah, I think I got a bit overzealous with the dimensions. I think had I made the base about half it's current height it would have been better.

As I received a couple other pieces of constructive advice... I shortened the Blockhouse, I think it looks a lot better for it.... And it has the added bonus of the base I cut down is just the right size to half complete a second blockhouse. I put in a link to the picture rather than inserting another picture to help prevent this thread from getting too image heavy.

The flag is taken from a photograph of the one we use for reenacting, scaled down on the computer, printed, then touched up with some paint to make it fit in with the miniatures. I appreciate the compliments on the figures.

And bellow, the now completed First Nation Warriors (Woodland Indians). Soon, some un-uniformed militia.
