Russo-Japanese War
« on: 01 December 2012, 10:17:06 AM »
Finally got enough figures painted to get a game played with my friends Bill (Japanese) and Dave (Russian).

The scenario involved a Japanese attempt to drive the Russians out of defensive positions to secure passage through a pass.  Roughly equal forces numerically but with the Japanese having the qualitative advantage.

Japanese naval infantry disembark to join the attack.

and marches towards the sound of firing.

The Russian view.

The Japanese assault begins

Japanese skirmish line

Russian defenders

Cavalry and sailors combine to destroy a Russian infantry unit

Cossacks appear in the Japanese rear

In the end the Japanese force was not strong enough to oust the Russians from their positions and the appearance of Cossacks in their rear put an end to the attack.  As the Japanese are nearly always going to be the attackers, I think they need some more support both artillery and machine guns.

Great looking game! Which rules did you use? (Sorry, if I overread it.  :-X)

As the Japanese are nearly always going to be the attackers, I think they need some more support both artillery and machine guns.

Hopefully that'll change next year...  ;)

I should have said, we used Triumph and Tragedy rules which worked very well.

Thanks for posting this nice report. Did you use the T&T RJW Army lists which I uploaded recently. Any bugs, any ideas if so. Thank you.
Cheers

Colin couldn't remember where he put the RJW alts but I look forward to trying them out in the next game.
Cheers
