any ideas for a cheap alien horde ?
« on: December 05, 2012, 07:12:55 PM »
Hi,

I'm currently thinking of adding some figures in a board game I just ordered (VPG Forlorn Hope). But it seems that this game requires a lot of xenos/aliens tokens (or standees), around 40-50 pieces.

So I' m searching for a possible cheap (less than 1euro/figure) source for alien-ish figures, in 15 or 28mm scale.

Apparently, the game needs 4 styles of aliens (+some eggs) :

So it would be cool to find diferent models of the same "species" (but not necessary, since conversion and mods still possible).

For now, I didn't find any good idea...Maybe that 's not realistic, money speaking.

thank you for your help !

Khurasan (I never can remember that name) have "space demons" which basically are alien style xenomorhps in 15mm. They go twelve to ten dollar and come with different classes of creature, part in body sculpt and part in separate head sculpt. Its a very classic and recognizable look if your willing to go for that.

you can find them on this page, scroll down a bit:

thank you for the help ! But if I can find something in Europe, I'd prefer (last month I orderer 50usd item in HK, and had around extra 32euros-40USD custom taxes to pay o_o  lol)

I found another possible solution here in Europe, maybe : using the Pendraken aliens 10mm minis. They look tall enough to match 15mm minis, I guess :

Those are really nice but doesn't match my price tag (less than 1euro/figure).

In fact except for Khurasan (without VAT and custom taxes) and 10mm pendraken, it seems to be an impossible mission as far as I know  lol

Concerning aliens style, in Forlorn Hope it's more oriented to bugs than "classic" Giger Aliens.

We had a fellow build quite an alien horde out of small plastic halloween spiders. He cut the mandibles and thorax off of each one then added a greenstuff alien head and ridge coming out of the back. He said it cost him in the neighborhood of $30 to make 200 or so.

What about the plastic bugs from Defiance Games?
He that trades Liberty for Security will soon find that he has neither.

Defiance is currently having issues shipping the bugs so . . . probably not.

Get creative: Balls in Space.

Ping pong balls, polystyrene balls. Floating on stands. Many sizes to choose. I alsways quite liked the idea of doing an "umbra" army from 40k. They manifest "shadow limbs", which I thing could be done by melting plastic bags and other bits of plastic, like literally setting fire to some, then waiting for it to harden. Then glue it on to the  bals.

There are of course other options using the same premise, just get creative with surface texture. Static grass stuck on then painted always looks cool in my book.

Also, for eggs, the inside stone from peaches is the easiest alien egg I know of....

That explains the lack of Bugs on my doormat; they were due to arrive almost 6 weeks or so ago...  :(

Northstar stock Defiance Games but no bugs so far, must be the problem Xeno_RG mentioned.

Heroclix brood are not that cheap...And remember that I will need around 40-50 of them  lol

For now the best way is to stick to 10 or 15mm alien monsters, I believe. Defiance bugs are nice but I don't want to order outside europe for now.

Finding bugs instead of "giger alien-ish monsters" seems more difficult too.
