Cheap Mutant Horde
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:36:44 PM »
My favorite miniature gaming is post apocalyptic & zombies.

I've been working on finding an easy/fast route to building my mutant horde.

While at a used book/gaming store I spied a box behind the the store counter. I asked the manager if I could see what it was. He brought it out, blew off the dust, and check it out. The manager saw that the box was dated 4 years ago and it was a demo/display kit to promote the Dreamblade game. I asked the manager, "How much?" He gave it to me for free because it was too old of a game to put the display up.

It wasn't until I got home and emptied the box that I learned there were 4 starter boxes.

If you want to get an idea of what type of creatures are in this game...

Between these and the bunch of weird looking Mage Knight clix I have a mutant horde almost 200 strong.

I know most of you are metal heads when it comes to miniatures, but I'm the type of guy who wants to play the game. I think these plastic miniatures are great for fleshing out the horde quickly.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

hi
There are some really nice figures in DREAMBLADE but all of them are much larger in both height and width than 28 or even 32mm figs so there use is limited . However  i suppose  by definition the term  'mutant horde' does give you a lot of flexibility.
I've used a few Dreamblade figures for superheros  where again there is no norm for a figure..

Yeah, I got some as well. Some are scale neutral and others make good weird idols and statues.

I cleared out my local B&M of these models, and some will work in 28mm for oddball things, like demons, Cthulhuian beasties, or bits.

We have a few (picked up at a show from a trader selling singles in a rummage bin) to use as statues/monsters/aliens
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Isn't that the truth!

I was able to use a modeling knife for the most part, but for those real tough ones - the dremmel tool was a valuable aid.

I have that one too. I also have the octorilla which is really a great, large figure. Everyone who's into cthulhu and monkeys should get one. lol

cool stuff.

Anyone know of a good online store (in Europe) selling singles? I'd rather evade using E(vil)bay for this...

It may not be in the UK but most of these are priced below a dollar. Might be worth it for you.

Although they're not exactly Cthulhu Mythos there are some that could be used... after all, I'm sure there were things Lovecraft was not meant to know.

I've bought some of my Clix and Dreamblade singles from here:
