I am after some help!

Quite a long time ago (possibly 25 years+) I read a series of books (3 I think) set in a post apocalyptice USA. I would quite like to revisit them but can't for the life of me remember the author or the titles.

I think that the apocalypse had been nuclear (because of when they were written and the "mutants". It featured an elite who had survived by being in bunkers at the time of the event and who had continued to live underground for many years.

They would go out from their bunkers in well equipped "land trains" I think they called themselves Transam or something like that.

I think that the story involved one of the elite being captured by "the mutants" who had mottled skin but it seemed after so long affected by radiation had actually started to breed "true" again and no  longer had mottled skins (but they had to hide this fact so painted tthemselves mottled).

At the moment this is all that is coming back to me - does it ring bells with anyone?

Thanks

That was it - thank you very much.

Did you know them or did you "google" it? I spent ages trying to find it!

I read them all some time ago and was fired up to make a game of it, but as with all things someone beat me to it before I was able to get around to it.  I think the article was in Ragnarok.

Really enjoyed them at the time. There was an info style book that accompanied the series with colour illustrations and technical info.

Never read the books but picked up the info book a few years ago.
No idea where, and no idea where I put it either.

Have all the books, they are well worth a go.

For gaming, the mutants have certain strange powers (won`t say more in case you want to read them)
