15mm Finnish KV-1e Klimi
« on: 16 January 2013, 07:52:58 PM »
36th post, so it's highest time to show a work of my own...

We're having a small contest on the Polish Forum Strategie. The task is easy - paint any 1/100 kit by Zvezda. My choice was the KV-1. However, as I'm more into modeling than painting (and I like to complicate stuff), I decided to make the KV-1e used by the Finns in the Continuation War.

So, here it is unpainted.

I hope I can paint it before the contest's deadline.  :D

And by the way - does anyone know how should the markings on this tank look? I know it should have black hakaristis on the sides of the turret, and possibly also on the back of the hull and on the front plate (the almost horizontal one). What about the Ps number and any other markings?

Oh, I've seen these photos. The problem is the tank lacks any markings after it was repainted.
It seems that later it got some markings, though all photos show it from the sides only, so you can't see anything apart from the turret hakaristis.

Andreas Larka has a truly nice page, mainly about the Finnish "Sturmis" aka Sturmgeschütz 40 Ausf. G but also other tanks in Finnish service during WW2 get their share:

http://www.andreaslarka.net/ps271001/ps271001.html (KV-1e)
http://www.andreaslarka.net/ps272001/ps272001.html (same as above, after repaint)

Here's his main page:

I can try to check some WW2 pics for you in case you need more accurate pics with markings etc?

Thanks guys.

I'm already using Larka's site for info on the modifications and camouflage. (And to plan what to buy later. :D )
I've found this on the site's forum: http://www.andreaslarka.net/phpBB3/download/file.php?id=11&sid=50e327af2ab6fa421eca6cbfc871a976
I'll probably stick to these markings (though I'm not sure if I can paint the numbers).

PS The tank from the first link is the other KV-1 used by the Finns, not a KV-1e (different turret).

Oops :/, was too hasty typing that. Good thing that you are much more in the know, will be nice to see the finished Klimi.

The Klimi is (more or less) finished!
At least for the contest. I'm taking a break now (exam session), but I'll have to make some minor adjustments. Plus I'm planning to do some weathering, but first I'll practice on some other tank (probably a T-26, as I'm planning a platoon of those).
