The Wasteland dragon (Casting well c:)
« on: 27 January 2013, 10:41:32 PM »
Two days ago, I was sat opposite my ladyfriend at the dinner table. She told me "I want to go to bed".
This spurned my brain into the notion that it was time to begin an attempt at something I have been considering for months.

Making my own Deathclaw figure.

I hastily scribbled, doodled down the shape of a Deathclaw. I then ran from the lass's smoke plumes and googled reference images, corrected my doodles and shaped it out at scale.
Carefully bending wires, I managed (somehow) to make a perfect mannequin in one go.
Pff, it started off magically. Usually that first step is the one where the model ends up in the bin and leaves me demoralised.

Well, the next day I got to work with some Super Sculpey (I've been using this instead of my usual GS for the last couple months, boiling it in water instead of baking it).

I got to this not too long before the end of the day...

I was pretty happy with that state.

So, I looked at it today. I kind of expected to be pissed off with at least *something* about it. But no, I was so pleased with the overall thing that I just cracked on;

That was earlier, about 4 hours before current time and progress report.
This is current;

This is the 'claw next to a Hasslefree figure (Not one of their tallest, mind!)

And again, next to my own Super Mutant sculpt;

Oh and here's a bonus picture;

If you'd like an apocalyptic monster in 28mm, throw me a PM and I'll think it over.

I fine beginning, sir!  Knowing my lack of sculpting skills, I had to fake some deathclaws for my project, but I await the conclusion of this!

Absolutely amazing! Cannot wait to see the finished article. I REALLY wish someone would make a Deathclaw model I can buy!

What he said (Oh, and preferably someone on this side of the pond for making & selling deathclaws)
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons,
for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

It's ok, we try to make time for all the intimacy too. Why just that night, we had to shrug our way past each other as we left the bathroom from brushing our teeth!

Which side of the pond would you prefer? x3

An update!

It's got a few very strong edges that I want to smooth down, but that's easy enough.

I had a go at doing the head, but my plans went wrong when I started with green stuff! D:

There was a line and we may have crossed it.
Good for us!  lol Crossing lines is liberating.
If the young lady is supportive of these flights of fancy you may have found a keeper.

So where next with the Deathclaw?
Are you considering casting it?

I am, though I'm going to take a while planning it, first..
I've got the wires prepared for the arms, I've got the head being shaped up in a.. basic form.

Looking good so far.
I love fallout, so I'm really curious how this will turn out.

Next to a Hasslefree Modern Adventurer model (Jo)

c:

The head's a bit narrow around the jaw and hinge, but that's easy to fix. Once that's done, I'll be having a go at shaping the rest up to.. "perfection" and then getting the head boiled up/ baked. Once it's safely hard enough to play with more, I'm making a seperate cast of it.
I got the wires for the arms next to me, I'll be working on them soon!
