I still have most of the 2000ad comics from 1 to around 1000 when I stopped.  Loved Rogue Trooper and always thought it would make a good TV series for HBO, shame it will never happen.

As do I, with all the stuck on freebies like the DREDD sheild, space flyers ect etc... And seeings that Cdr Vyper is on such a huge nostalgia trip I just thought Id ad my fave... Feeling inspired by this very thread I re-read some RT stories, and while I'll agree they were OK, I found them very dated...

So i then went and re-read MY fave 200AD story: The Ballad of Halo Jones.
And that actually went UP in my estimation! Its even better now than then!
Alan Moore at his very very best.

Would sort of be nice if Ms Jones could also be shoe horned into this RT universe.... Especially since she does serve in the army in the narrative, and comes out a.... different person.

If no one has ever read this story, i urge you to do so.
Female main character that starts off an ordinary hoop girl, and ends up, well, i wont say where...

As the tag line said at the time:
" Where did she go? Out. What did she do? Everything."

Perhaps Ms Jones would make an excellent stretch goal?
Money can't buy you happiness but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

This will be the first time I've ever been tempted by a kickstarter, the perfect 2000ad wargame... :D

Eeee. Still can't decide what level to pledge at.

I'd wait to see how the stretch goals develop, and now they have cut it down the Major (£200) as the top level which suggests the others are being tweaked...

Marauders mate. I've got it in one of the old titan books. As its a classic I'm sure it'll be in the current collection books.

Oh oh now if they do Marauders then that would be too much. All those old Huey style jet hover gunships if they do these Hoppers it would be a definate purchase for me... and bio wire must include bio wire... and Stammels...

I have been thinking of doing Rogue Trooper in 15mm for ages. The GZG UNSC look a bit like filthy Norts. The New Israelis look like Southers and there is  a massive range of suitably random flyers tracked vehicles and others.

Still really want to do it in 15mm but maybe 28mm first now.

PS South Side Yeah!

As much as I am excited about this asking people to lay down £200 to get access to the 'free' stretch goals seems a bit steep. Compare this with relic knights or sedition wars for example.

Was this similar with the Dredd game?

Nope the stretch gaols were pretty amazing and at higher levels you really got loads for your money

Loved Rogue Trooper and always thought it would make a good TV series for HBO, shame it will never happen.

It almost did (not on HBO). There was once a script written for a Rogue Trooper pilot...

they have cut it down the Major (£200) as the top level which suggests the others are being tweaked...

Actually, that was a requirement from the KS people, as they do not like the idea of 'bulk' rewards, even if they can all be different. We _may_ put some higher pledge levels in (suggestions welcomed!) but, as things stand, this is our opening gambit.

They have put rules in for Nort black mares and souther carter class heaps. Did anyone tell Matt to have a look at a pic of them before he made that decision? The size of these minis will make the warzone grizzley tank look tiny.

Heh :)

The Carter is a 'reasonable' size, but the Blackmare _is_ a monster. We will do a scale-fiddle here, as we did with the Manta Prowl Tank - that is a foot long but, if it were 'true' to scale, it should be 2 foot long. However, the one foot model looks right and gets the point across. The same will apply to the Blackmare (which will likely be the same mass as the Manta and Mo-Pad).

Oh oh now if they do Marauders then that would be too much. All those old Huey style jet hover gunships if they do these Hoppers it would be a definate purchase for me... and bio wire must include bio wire... and Stammels...

All on the list of Things To Do :)

Still really want to do it in 15mm but maybe 28mm first now.

I originally wanted this game to be 15mm, but the overwhelming opinion we received was that it should be 28mm.

Nope the stretch gaols were pretty amazing and at higher levels you really got loads for your money

A little too much, as it happened :)

What you see/wil see on the Rogue Trooper KS is, as I said above, our opening gambit. Remember, the Dredd Kickstarter added a lot over its run and did not look anything like as it did when it finished. We will continue tweaking and adding to the Rogue Trooper KS as it runs, according to demand. If people go in deep, we will respond. If it turns out they just want a smaller scale game or even just a range of miniatures to collect, we will adjust to that too.

That ios the point of Kickstarters, really - it is completely up to you! We just put up a flag and show what could be possible :)

Pitty you got out voted on the 15mm side - i'd have be offering you money now if so. Watching this closely, as even in 28mm, likely to bite.

(any chance that this might appear in 15mm if the kickstarter is successful - say as a stretch goal - i'd invest on the off chance of this, as 15mm is my prefered scale. Don't know the costs, but if it did appear as an option  :D 8))

Rogue Trooper was the very first sci-fi miniature that I ever saw, photographed against cotton wool and lit with a red bulb.  The shot appeared in a 2000AD special some summer in the early eighties.

Without exaggeration, that photo of that character is the precise reason why I am in the hobby thirty years later.  I am all-over this Kickstarter.

Actually, that was a requirement from the KS people, as they do not like the idea of 'bulk' rewards, even if they can all be different. We _may_ put some higher pledge levels in (suggestions welcomed!) but, as things stand, this is our opening gambit.

I think that making a £200 investment the be all and end all of the pledges is smart.  Its a psychology thing, part of the gotta catch em all mentality.

The Dredd KS caused me all sorts of agonising over the level to pledge at because I wanted to get all of the interesting add-ons that were only available for free at higher pledges.  Based purely only on my experience of a handful of miniatures based Kickstarters, I think that factor likely hurt the Dredd KS in terms of total money earned/number of pledgers.

In my opinion, the Dreadball and Sedition Wars Kickstarters (and to an extent the Reaper one) all reached high levels because the basic buy in was $100-$150.  Once you had committed to that then it meant that you were in on all of the cool stuff to come.

I hope that the larger, but still comparatively "affordable" £200 Major pledge follows this pattern.  The fewer people that feel left out of the freebies from the stretch goals, the more people will spread the word and the more pledgers take part in the end.

Thats how I think it works anyway :)

Good luck with it Matt.

Having backed a couple of kickstarters and been sorely tempted by a few more which in the end I didn't go for the main thing I would say is you have chosen the reward levels and goal well.

Generally speaking for a project I am interested in I'll set my upmost limit at around £70, but if there are tempting offers between there and say £150 I often find myself putting in a little more. I have seen a few projects which for some reason have massive gaps where my particular "grey area" is, ones which jump straight from £50 to £200+ which always leaves me putting in less money that I would be willing to.

Similarly setting an achievable goal, like I feel yours is, is something very important as the initial push and starting hype can often see much or all of that goal achieved, and I know there are people, myself included at times, who will wait and see if a project is getting close to the goal or has already met it before putting their own pledge forward.

While I'm not a Rogue Trooper fan, though I do want to look into it more now, the general feel very much appeals to me and for some reason those 3 minis pictured appeal so much more than any of the Dredd models did. I don't know if it's the sculpts themselves, the style, the painting or even just simply the photography but these just click more for me.

While I only put in for the hardcopy of the rulebook with Dredd (something I may come to regret once more pictures, painting and conversions get done on the miniatures) I'm very much of a mind to put atleast a little money aside for a few of this next range.

The Rogue Trooper Kickstarter is now live!

You can visit it at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1990654819/2000ad-rogue-trooper-miniatures-game

Based on the 2000AD comic strip, the Rogue Trooper miniatures game has been designed to let players take part in the clash of Nort vs. Souther on the shattered world of Nu-Earth.

This game very much needs your support, so we hope you will join us over the next month to see how it develops. Like the Judge Dredd miniatures game, the first draft of the rulebook is already available on the Kickstarter page for you to review!
