Beautiful, Pat. Clean, crisp and functional. About the gameboard: what ddid yo use for the water? And the land areas, are those covered with felt?

The gameboard is a TSS sand coast tile, exactly as it comes from them. In time I will get around to using spray paints to give some 'texture' to the tiles and I will add some patches of grass mat - if I ever get the time.

Very sweet table you have set there!  Figures are outstanding! :)

Are the bales, boxes, and bags (oh my!) also from Aintsy?

Most is from Ainsty. The barrels are from Pardulon as are some of the boxes used (out of shot).

Hi ToS,

You asked about basing...

For pirates, I use plank bases... either homemade or manufactured.

I paint almost all of my ships and now planked building floors in the same marigold / yellow-beige color with a chestnut ink... Gives good effect.

I'd send a photo, but I can't find any and my digital camera finally became undead...

At any rate, the wooden base look is very good and easy to do with coffee stirrers, balsa pieces, or even some of the attractive pre-made resin bases out there. Off the top of my head, Armorcast, Black Cat, and a number of tohers make them.

What I like best about the plank bases is that they really enhance the "pirate" look of a pirate collection figure.

I also individually base much of my shipboard ordinance. Makes everything match and look like a set.

Happy gaming!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Beautiful looking miniatures and scenery.
I also struggled with bases for my current 60's style British sci-fi project as I wanted them to fight shipboard combats as well as on various alien planets, I finally used the wonderful clear bases by Jim Bibbly's Oshiro Model Terrain, once the figures were painted I used a pair of snips to cut around the feet on the bases, then snipped of that bit of base fron the bottom of the shoe (hope that makes sense). I then sanded the base of their feet so they sit well on the base finally drilling and fixing a small pin (2mm protruding from base of foot) and glue with super glue, finally I touch up any paintwork as necessary.

Bases available here: http://www.oshiromodelterrain.co.uk/gamingaids.html
