Ciao,

here some pictures of the 3 buildings I scratchbuilt.
Maybe in the future I'll write a brief tutorial, but their construction was very easy indeed.

The walls are 3mm balsa wood, scored with a pencil.
Take care that the horizontal lines don't have to continue on the contiguous wall, but have to be shifted half way up or down to obtain the overlapping effect in the corners!!
The stone basement and fireplace is Depron again scored with a pencil.
The only "difficult" part was the overlapping of the wooden boards at the corners.
I obtained them by prolonging the lateral sides of the long walls, and then I built the "prolongings" of the short walls with short lenghts of balsa strip.

The beautiful roofs... well, they're another masterpiece of our common friend Jack (Sangennaru on this forum - ciao Jack! ;)).
He casted them in resin and I had only to paint them.

I started with a dark brown, heavily drybrushed with several coats of light to very light grey.

After the houses I started to built several wood elements based on old CDs.
I started from a lot of very cheap but nice trees bought on Ebay from a Chinese seller of model railroad accessories.
As you can see, the original green was... well.. too GREEEN!!! :D

so I tuned it down with some light sprays of green, brown and ocra.

Tomorrow I hope I'll find the time to prepare a mash of sand, white glue, green and brown paints and plaster and I'll start to cover the bases.

See you soon!!

Marco

Thank you!!!

Excellent work guys
how did You do the masonry?

former user,

do you mean the stones?
I started from a sheet of Depron 6mm thick.
Deprom is a kind of foam used in model airplanes because is very light, but I'm sure that blue foam or pink foam will do the job.
Then, with a dull pencil, I started to carve some stones, here and there, that is not adjacent.
Then I fill the gaps between the first stones carving smaller stones.
Anyway, is way more easy to do than to explain!! :)
You only have to experiment a little with the dullness/sharpness of the pencil, and the pattern of the stones.
I did'nt have any reference, but maybe a picture of the real thing could be useful as an example.

Hope this helps!

Marco
