Hey Soaps,

Are you doing the French for Gallipoli as well?

Eventually, yes. In fact I'm busy sorting through some reference for hats amongst the Frenchies. There is an interesting shot of a FFL chap in a 'pith helmet' and I'm looking to see how common this was 'coz I really fancy doing a load of them, along with the regular French too.

Stay lucky,
Soaps.

Hi Soapy,

The French had both types of headgear not including the French colonials. You could differ the metros by having the FFL in pith helmet and the Metros in kepi.

Please checkout this link to the Axis Forum under which is the heading French at Gallipoli:

http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22655&hilit=+french+Gallipoli

When we gamed 3rd Battle of Kirithia I'd to use my Brigade Games WF French as there were no figures available. I hope you can put this right for us.

Heres a pic as an example:

I agree with Stephen - we need French!

Funnily enough it's the French I'm keenest to do and the lads are keeping them way down the production schedule so that I have something to look forward to!

I have all sorts of flavours of Entente troops to do but the big problem for a Gallipoli range is that it all seems to be Turk, Turk, Turk when it comes to the CP forces. Anyone got any suggestions as to what they'd like to see fleshing out the Ottomans?

I am aware this is a can of worms I'm opening here.

Thanks for the info Helen.

Soaps.

Oh my god! Here's my big chance. This is what you must make: The legendary, almost mythical:

Teenage female snipers!

Ordinary snipers would be cool, too. General consensus last time it was discussed on a web forum was that most Ottoman snipers would have used ordinary rifles without scopes, by the way. Helen may know different, but that's what I've been told.

Hi Poly,

Yep iron sights were used by the majority Turkish snipers.

I've fired Turkish-made Mauser ammo. I think about one in five actually went off. Seems to me those snipers were very sensible chaps not bothering with expensive scopes!

These look great. Since the Gibbon and another local are already painting troops from another company I don't think there is any sense in me resisting any more.

About 30 years ago I had a drink with a Gallipolli veteran (a German gunner) whilst on a bizarre holiday to southern Germany. That same week I had lunch in a bar run by a cook from the Tirpitz and breakfast with a group of Afrika Korps veterans.

It's a sign. This is a theatre you need to game.

I've shot a Turkish Mauser and it was a pleasingly solid rifle. I can see how a sniper would do plenty of harm without needing a scope on one of those. There's a reason why the Mauser bolt is such a popular starting point for creating swanky hunting rifles.

Hi Folks,

Here is the link that talks about the myth of the Female sniper. You will need to scroll down some ways before coming across the start of the topic and then goes over the page.

I'll leave it up to you to decide otherwise.

Thanks for that, Helen. Probably a myth then. Oh well, never mind. I still want a figure of one, myth or not.  :)

And certainly still a regular sniper, too.

Hi Folks,

I was on the Gripping Beast website and saw the Greens for the Turks/ANZACs rifles plus a few more officers for both sides.

http://www.grippingbeast.com/webpage.php?PageID=62

Even if they don't match up with Brigade Games I'm still purchasing some in time to supplement my own collection.

Soapy has done an outstanding design on these lovely chaps. Full of dynamic action. Lovely some of the facial expressions.

Love the ANZAC officer with his pipe in his mouth.

I like the idea of a freebie if you order before hand! Will there be one for the Turks? I can see these lovely chaps already scaling our Gallipoli terrain located in my garage.

The Turks are rather nice, just wish someone would do some with Arab headress. It's funny we now have two manufactures make ANZAC in fantry in campaign gear but none in uniforms for the landings.
