Chinese tigermen
« on: February 12, 2013, 07:41:06 PM »
The manchu tigermen that were re-formed during the Boxer rebellion apparently still aped the old tiger suit but the only photograph i have found appears to show no stripes although the hat is present. Is this just poor contrast on the photo or did the masses just make do with a cap and perhaps an orange/brown suit?

The stripes are there. The problem (apart from the contrast in the photo) is with all with the creases in his jacket, it is hard to tell them from the stripes. The braiding on his button holes also serve to disrupt the pattern too. In the version of that photo that is in the Osprey book, the stripes are clearer. They slope upwards and inwards from either side towards the centre of his chest.
