Fences
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:20:22 PM »
What was the most common type of fencing used in Russia that would be appropriate for BoB ?
I have seen photos of wattle fences around cottages, but also roughly hewn log fencing, post and rail etc etc.

In particular, which iff any of the Renadra (plastic) fencing sets would be appropriate ?

Stephane Passet's photos of Siberia in the early 1900's for Albert Kahn show the zig-zag fencing like that used widely in America during the ACW period. There are also some fascinating chevaux-de-frise in Mongolian monastery compounds presumably as some form of livestock control. Otherwise the vertical pales of random birch planks seen in films like Fiddler on the Roof seem to be popular in rural Russia, often with small roofed thresholds above the gates

In Mongolia, especially Urga (Ulan Bator) in the suburbs you can see compounds made up of vertical planking 7-8 feet high.

Descriptions of Urga also state the European compound had a timber stockade 11 feet high.
