Heads: what choices are there in 25/28mm
« on: April 09, 2008, 11:28:04 AM »
Hi Guys,

Thought this may prove a useful tread as I play games over lots of different time frames so head swaps are happening all the time with my armies.

But when it comes to Victorian and Colonial 25/28mm heads, there just dont seem to be any?

So, the big question,  has any enterprising chap ever found any good metal heads that could be used for VSF?

I'll start off with Westwind & Pig Iron.....

Any more? I really need those pith helmets....

Westwind do separate heads for their WW2 range. Although not listed as available as a separate pack they will make up a pack of British Indian Army heads as a special order. Very good mail order service too.

Amazon Miniatures have resurrected the old QT Miniatures(?) separate parts, including a large range of separate heads, weapons and other goodies. Mostly for ancients and renaissance (including useful Chinese & Mongol heads), but also including some ACW heads. They also do separate ACW pistols, carbines and swords.

Thanks Sir Henry,

But I have found the amazon ones to be too small for 28mm and only JUST about acceptable on 25mm figures...

scale creep and all that...

So that's:

Westwind

Pig Iron

Amazon

Any more?

Wow!

At last, a sun/pith/wolsley helmet....

Thanks for that one, how does the scale work out?

Heroic 28mm or small weedy 25mm?

Any other out there?

Redoubt do ACW heads, which could provide kepis for your Frenchies, and perhaps even havelocks for Foreign Legion...

Thanks Tommy...

do you have any pix of the heads?
I've been on to Redoubt's site and they don't have any pix of the heads on there own, only on figures, painted and ranked up....

so its quite hard to work out which styles are which and how many variations there are...

Hope you, or anybody else, can help....

Once upon a time, they were listed separately on the website.  You could order a pack of 10 (or so) Kepi/Bummer/Slouch/Bare/etc...  It appears as if that's no longer the case, but I wonder if you rang them up they might not be able to put together what you want.

If you know someone with a good library of old Wargames Illustrated magazines, they used to do monthly ads with line drawings of the most recent releases.

Found it!  If you go to the "Heads - Select" drop-down menu, there's a list of types.

Still no pictures, though.

A list of types, but a list only....

Not a single pic!

I know we can all guess what some or even most of them look like in general terms, but why oh why do these companies give you the choice you want and need but with out a single visual guide to their items?

Seriously, how long would it have taken to do a single shot of each of the head types...

moan winge moan....

Or is it just me?

Still not exactly what you're looking for, but Redoubt's US distributor has some lovely photo's of their mini's that would at least give you an idea of what their heads look like:

Not MUCH help, but...

I found those by using google images....
But its still not that useful...

I even emailed Redoubt!
Anyone from that company or know anybody that does post on here?

If so, please please put some head shots on your site, afterall, whats the point of having the excellent idea of separate heads, and then not show anyone what the heads look like?
