Removing BAM plastics from sprue and removing mould lines
« on: 01 March 2013, 06:56:17 AM »
Hi All,

Got the BAM starter set and was clipping all the parts from the sprue. I managed to break 2 mg 42's and 2 kar 98's. Are people mainly using exacto knives to do this? I'm used to games workshop sprues.

Also, are people removing mould lines from the guns? How do you do so without damaging them? They seem much more delicate than I thought!

Thx!

KT

For small parts I do indeed use a scalpel to cut them off the frame. Mold lines are removed with a thin file, but you can use fine grain sand paper or scrape the line away with your hobby knife. But of course, one has to be careful  ;)

I removed the guns using some cheap cutters from maplins and gave a quick scrape with a knife, never broke any, I seem to be one of the only people who never had a rifle snap, even after dropping them.

You could always clip further away from the model to avoid adding pressure to the actual item on the sprue. I have had some fragile stuff on other sprues so I would clip down on the sprue further away, once I clipped it free on part of the sprue it removed off like normal. Sometimes the plastic gets tight after it cools down and with packaging or even the "clipper" bends it slightly it can cause tension on the sprue.
