Not to hijack your subject, but (from the same seller in France  lol ) I bought a number of wooden puzzles - all Chinese buildings from small to large.  I have "upgraded" the smallest one (3.5 Euro) now by adding some structure to the walls, downloading a roof from the net and painted it.  This is the result:

I know, you already had them in your thread a month ago! ;)

But mine are cheaper! About 1 Euro for the roof and 1 Euro for the rest (card, plaster, plasticard) per house. :D
They will, of course, need a bit more work. ;)

But I think that it is worth it, don't you?

Indeed, I was'nt sure you was that, so it was easier to re-post (lazy me...  lol)
Yours are certainly more than worth considering to build, no doubt, but I have placed two bulk orders with him over the last couple of years and they are now classified as project 32014.Chin.8412.bis...  lol

Ben was so kind to present me with two new buildings for my birthday last weekend. While I own no Chinese forces of any kind, I am really really proud to own them. I've included a Sikh for scale purposes.

Now this one is my favourite... The writing on the wall has something to do with "Hope" and "Greece", but to be honest, Ben can probably explain this much better than I can.

Thank you for the pics! Much better then I could do!

The writing 希腊的 is a kind of nameplate and means "the Greek" , or at least, the google translator told me this!  ;)

It also told me that the first of these three 希 translates as "hope", together with the second one 希腊 it should read "Greece".

While I suspect that this isn't 100% correct, I think it adds a nice spot of color to the house.

No critisism, at least, as they both look great.
The writing is a nice touch (correct or not, how many people would really know?) and coupled with the brighter colouring of the roof tiles helps bring them to life.

An excellent gift, too.
MUCH better than socks!

The problem is that you have used simplified characters (introduced by Communist China) and not traditional characters: 希臘. In addition, these two characters designate only associated countries. Modern Chinese bi-syllabic being you must associate the characters to the word "hope" 希望 "
希腊的is an adjective.
In addition, I have a big doubt about the color of the tiles of your home. Here are some pictures of the village of my wife in Fujian :

Thank you for the photos Nicolo, they look very cool!
Can you tell us what kind of houses (maybe shops?) these are and what is written around the doors?

The light red color of my writing seems to be possible?

What are the roofs made of on those pics?
Are this very flat tiles or a kind of wood? I cant really see it and would like to know!

And where is the village in the province Fujian?

These are all residential houses except the last which is the clan temple.
What is each side of the doors are awards lucky. They are always made by two parallel ways. The writting seems is not plausible.
They are indeed flat tiles.
This is the village of 石 亢 150km from Xiamen (厦门)

I did a little research (maybe I should have done a bit more before) and found the "temple of heaven":
http://cdn2.vtourist.com/4/3186031-Temple_of_Heaven_Beijing_China_Beijing_Shi.jpg

This one has a different kind of tiles (more like the ones on my model then on the other pictures) and even the color is a nearly perfect match.
This shows that it is possible (and was before) to produce blue tiles in China.
Even if my houses are no temples, I think this photo justifies the use of this colour!
And what is, off course, most important: it just looks very cool and gets them this exotic look! ;)

I finished the next chinese building some days ago (and already gave it away  ;) ).

You can find it in this pic from our Corto Maltese in mongolia game last friday.

Remington took it home and will hopefully show us some better pics soon (and I hope after that he will give it back to our mate Jörg and will not just keep it! ;))
